Narrator: "How to be a candidate."

[Video: While the narrator is speaking, an animated circle appears with a bearded man in the foreground and the Sky Tower and other high rises in the background. Narrator: "To stand as a candidate in Auckland’s local elections, you just have to be over 18, a New Zealand citizen and on the electoral roll."

Narrator: "To stand for council:

  • decide which position, whether you would like to be mayor, ward councillor or local board member.
  • find two people enrolled in the area you’re standing in to nominate you
  • pay a $200 deposit
  • fill out the nomination paper and return it before the closing date."
