Candidate for Albert-Eden Local Board (Ōwairaka Subdivision)
City Vision
Kia ora, kia orana, I am a resident of Mt Albert with Cook Island and Chinese heritage. I have a long association with the Point Chevalier and Waterview communities as a registered teacher and parent, including with sports clubs. I want to improve local facilities, arts and events to meet our community’s needs, improve and bring our vibrant neighbourhoods together. As a grassroots community voice, I run the Point Chevalier Hub Facebook page. As a mum, I think about what the future holds for my daughter and the next generation. I volunteer for environmental groups including Urban Ark and Second Sunday Weeders. My priority is a plan for Point Chevalier and action it, with a new library and community centre at its heart to reinvigorate the town centre, improve safety and provide services to all. Please vote for me and the City Vision team.
I love the Albert-Eden community and want the best possible outcomes for residents, local businesses and people who frequent the area and what it has to offer. If elected my priorities as a grassroots community voice is to see the library come back into the heart of Point Chevalier to reinvigorate the town centre, be a community centre and improve safety. To fund community groups to do what they do best, services to the public, a range of free community events and improving native biodiversity.
I am a Mt Albert resident, I have a long standing association in both the Point Chevalier and Waterview communities as a registered teacher and parent, including sport clubs. I am a mum who thinks about what the future holds for my daughter and the next generation. I am an active volunteer in environmental groups such as Urban Ark and Second Sunday Weeders.
My top key 3 issues: 1. I am passionate about the community, bringing people together and growing inclusive futures for all through events, libraries and services. 2. I want to push for a new library and community centre in the heart of Pt Chevalier to reinvigorate the town centre. 3. Improve community safety and provide services and access to parks to all from Western Springs to Sandringham and Pt Chevalier.
To prioritise safe, efficient and accessible travel for all people in our community. Particularly safe speed zones in residential areas around our local schools. The use of protected cycle lanes and shared pathways to encourage and support getting more people out and about walking, cycling, using public transport and exploring our vibrant city.
In regards to the management of Auckland's water, I support the Central Interceptor project. This will deliver significant environmental benefits such as cleaning up our waterways, decreasing sewerage overflowing into local creeks and the harbour which also will make our beaches more swimmable for everyone.
With our ever growing population, there is a need for intensified healthy housing in close proximity to public transport, equitable & sustainable housing choices inclusive to all, close to transport links, going up rather than out to ensure adequate open space. Urban design will celebrate and enhance our unique neighbourhoods. I support the adaptive reuse of heritage and character buildings and the identification, protection and enhancement of Māori sites of significance, and historic heritage.
There is a fundamental need to advocate for the diversification of clean, safe green spaces - including planting, well-organised community gardens, regenerative gardening and urban farms in our parks and communities. Supporting community conservation groups (such as Urban Ark) working towards a biodiverse and flood resilient urban environment. Bringing attention to the use of recycling centres such Waiōrea in Western Springs.
My priorities as a grassroots community voice is to facilitate a hub our community can connect to including events, to see the library come back into the heart of Point Chevalier to reinvigorate the town centre, be a community centre, improve safety and provide services to the public.
My vision for boosting economic growth and development is by making our communities an inviting places to live, visit and do business in. Beautifying or upgrading local town centres to keep locals 'staying and spending' local.
Honouring Te Tiriti and closer working relationships with mana whenua. To engage with local iwi to ensure inclusive outcomes for all and to liaise with mana whenua in environmental projects.
