Candidate statement

'I do it because I can and I do it because I care about You' Formally Secondary College teacher and Director of a Multi-National Company. Lived in Beachlands with my wife and have spent at least 2 working days a week on the coast. Having served for 4 terms a strong Team approach is vitally important to get things done in Council for You. Commitments: Work with Vector to finalise undergrounding of power in Old Beachlands; Consult further on council hub with Public service desk in Beachlands; Support for youth initiatives, including a Secondary College and Pump Track; Establish Menzshed and support senior citizens Kerb, Channel and footpath First View; Oversee Targeted rate footpaths throughout Wairoa Support all our rural communities, including for emergency management; Reduce speeds around schools and safety; Police Beaches more effectively; Increase Commercial Land for local employment; Upgrade, renew Playgrounds, Toilets and shade sail at Kahawairahi.

Why I want to be elected

I will continue the successful work which I have been doing for YOU for the last 12 years across all communities in Wairoa. My focus will be: • Careful allocation of funding for maximum community benefit • Improve road quality and expand public transport where needed • Community facilities, protect what we have and plan for future expansion • Complete the undergrounding of electricy in Old Beachlands • Continue negotiations with the M.of.Education for a Pohutukawa Coast Secondary College

My key skills and qualities

Know how based on having been a Senior Manager in Industry and Secondary School Teacher. 12 years experience and always available helping all individuals where possible, working at least 3 days per week on Board Business, including unsocial hours evenings and weekends Meeting all Community Associations such as Fellowship Group, Takutai Youth Council, Hall Committees, Sports Clubs including Te Puru, Wairoa River groups As a Justice of the Peace serving once a month on the Service Desk.

My top three key issues

Maintain and improve my relationships with all of YOU by always being available and using my considerable experience in Council for your benefit. Consult and develop community facilities such as Hubs in Beachlands and Clevedon, Supporting our Halls and community groups of all ages and ethnicities, participating in important events including ANZAC parades, AG days, markets, socials. Caring for the environment and ensuring that we enhance our parks, paths, trails and achieve better pest control.
