Michael COOTE

Candidate for Henderson-Massey Local Board

Independent

Candidate statement

Harbourview-Orangihina Park is a very special place of Auckland-wide environmental significance for its rare wetland and foreshore native birdlife. Traditionally the People's Park of Te Atatu Peninsula, it is also a recreational open space for residents of increasingly intensified Henderson-Massey. These irreplaceable social and natural values must be protected in perpetuity. No more park land development can be permitted beyond the proposed Te Atatu marae, already intended for commercial and residential purposes. Marae property development must be strictly confined within its surveyed zone and fenced boundaries. Entities associated with the marae must not exercise kaitiaki control or guardianship within the rest of the People's Park. No land anywhere within the park should ever be permanently alienated by grant or sale to any party. Our community must ensure that the People's Park remains managed under Auckland Council's exclusive control for everyone to enjoy equally. If you agree, vote for Michael Coote.
