Candidate for Henderson-Massey Local Board
WestWards
Re-elect Luke Wilson - Safer Streets. Smarter Spending. Stronger Community. I'm Luke Wilson. On the local board, I redirected millions from wasteful projects into safety upgrades and local parks. I fought for real fixes, not more red tape. West Auckland is facing real challenges: housing, crime, traffic congestion, and inadequate infrastructure. I'm a long-time Te Atatū local, retired Police officer, and proud to have been mentored by the late Ross Dallow. His example taught me the value of service, discipline, and standing up for your community. I bring that same practical, results-driven, and focused on locals approach. This term, I'll push to: Keep spending local, smart, and focused on affordability. Make our streets and parks safe again. Clean up town centres and support local businesses. Tackle crime and antisocial behaviour. Improve infrastructure and reduce flood risks. Vote Luke Wilson, working with Ken Turner, Sunil Kaushal and the WestWards team.
I’ve watched too much wasteful spending while core issues were ignored. I want to see safe streets, affordable homes, clean town centres, and strong local infrastructure. And I’m committed to making that happen. As a long-time local and retired Police officer, I’ll focus investment where it counts in housing, flood resilience, local business, and safety. I’ll clean up Henderson and build a West Auckland we’re proud to call home.
With 18 years as a Police officer in West Auckland, I know how to partner with the community to deliver real results at low cost. I’m a hard worker with a practical, no-nonsense approach. I care deeply about our people and area, I want to make West Auckland a great place to live and a destination for all Aucklanders. #UpTheWest
Housing affordability: Reduce costs and cut red tape to make it easier for people to get a home. Stop wasteful spending: Make spending transparent, disciplined, and focused on what people need. I’m committed to simplifying council processes and keeping rates under control. Community safety: Back our Police and community groups with stronger council support to create a safer West.
With experience in Road Policing and NZTA infrastructure delivery, I bring practical, cost-effective solutions to West Auckland’s transport issues. I already have plans to fix congestion hotspots like Westgate, Te Atatū Road, and Lincoln Road. As someone who lives locally, I’ll support affordable, balanced options so our community is heard and properly served by the transport network.
The West needs to get back to basics. I want our waterways and harbour safe to swim in because right now, they’re not. Many West Auckland buildings still have stormwater illegally connected to wastewater, causing raw sewage to flow into the harbour during heavy rain. That’s unacceptable. I’ll demand these problems be fixed urgently and support investment in smarter, resilient water infrastructure that protects health, the environment, and future generations.
We must address Auckland’s infrastructure deficit and focus on the unglamorous but essential work of fixing stormwater, roads, and public transport links. I support more affordable housing near transit, faster consents to unlock supply, and targeted investment in infrastructure. I support protecting valued heritage where it doesn’t block needed homes or sensible urban improvements.
I will use my experience as a local constable and strong community connections to help protect West Auckland’s natural spaces. I’ll support volunteers who already act as kaitiaki, making sure they have tools and backing. I’ll also invest in expert guidance, stormwater solutions, tree planting, and habitat restoration to improve biodiversity, reduce flood risk, and build lasting climate resilience into our environment.
Antisocial behaviour has taken over too many of our public spaces. I’ll take action to reclaim them by backing safer design, better upkeep, and community-led events and activities. I’ve worked with leaders like Assid Corban and Ross Dallow, they put people before politics and delivered real results. I’ll bring that same commitment to the board and help West Aucklanders restore pride in our parks, town centres, and shared spaces.
I will focus on Henderson town centre as the key to uplifting the rest of West Auckland - creating places where people feel safe, businesses can thrive, and locals can easily access jobs, shops, and services. I’ll support efforts to reduce crime, clean up public spaces, and back local businesses. A strong local economy creates a more connected community. I’ll also support cultural events that reflect and celebrate our diverse identity.
I will prioritise core infrastructure repairs, stormwater upgrades, and effective flood protection. I support clear, fair processes for buyouts and managed retreat where needed.
