Gary George has called the Coast home for the past 29 years, raising his family here and contributing to the community in many ways. Gary's background spans farming, banking, mortgage brokering, coach driving, and running a successful finance business, now carried on by his daughter. Gary is a proud father of two and 'Poppa' to two beautiful grandchildren, who he regularly takes exploring our local beaches. He’s passionate about diving, biking, travel, and quality time with family. A long-time church member and former president of a local business networking group, Gary brings people together and gets things done. He’s a practical problem solver with a calm, can-do approach. Gary understands both the needs of families and small businesses, and he’s ready to bring his experience and energy to the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board. If you want a genuine local voice who listens and takes action - vote Gary George.
My goal in standing for the local board is to make sure our community’s voice is genuinely represented in the decisions that shape our daily lives. I believe the best solutions come from within the community, and I’m committed to working with residents to create real, lasting improvements.
I bring extensive experience in finance & business to the local board. As a high-performing financial advisor & former banker, I have a solid understanding of sound financial management & long-term planning. My background as a business owner has taught me the importance of practical solutions & supporting local enterprise. I have also been involved in project developments, which gives me insight into managing growth & balancing progress with community needs.
1. Prudent Financial Management - Every dollar spent should deliver value back to the community. I understand the importance of careful budgeting & long-term planning. I’m passionate about ensuring rates are used wisely, keeping costs fair while still investing in the services & facilities our community needs. 2. Responsible growth & development - I’m committed to ensuring growth benefits the whole community. 3. Collaboration with the Governing Body and local board to build stronger connections.
I want to see transport solutions that genuinely make life easier for our community. A key project I would like to see progressed is a new roundabout at Silverdale, which would provide smoother, safer access between the industrial area & Silverdale village. This is a practical step that would support local businesses, reduce congestion, & improve safety for all road users. Also I support the continuity of public transport including the Gulf Harbour Ferry - including weekend sailings.
Recent floods have highlighted how vulnerable our community is when basic infrastructure and maintenance are overlooked. Blocked drains, poorly maintained waterways and the pressure of rapid development, with more concrete and less green space, are making flooding worse. My priority is to push for better planning and investment in stormwater management, with regular maintenance of drains and waterways and also bring back mandatory water tanks with every newbuild.
Our community is growing, and we must balance housing, infrastructure, and heritage. Future development should be based on practical, evidence-driven planning so roads, water, and transport can meet demand. Growth must not outpace services. At the same time, we should protect heritage buildings and sites, honouring our history while shaping a sustainable future for all.
To protect and enhance Auckland’s natural spaces, we must invest in restoring wetlands, planting more native trees, and safeguarding biodiversity. Good planning means balancing development with green corridors and open spaces. Improving stormwater systems, preserving reserves, and supporting community-led conservation all strengthen climate resilience. By protecting nature, we protect our future.
I will build strong, connected communities by listening and engaging with residents, supporting local events, and encouraging collaboration across groups. Improving local services and facilities means ensuring they are well-maintained, accessible, and meet real community needs. My goal is to enhance wellbeing by creating safe, inclusive spaces where people feel supported and proud to belong.
My vision is to boost economic growth by supporting local businesses, encouraging innovation, and attracting investment that benefits all. I want thriving, secure town centres where people feel safe and businesses can flourish. At the same time, I will promote and protect our cultural heritage, celebrating what makes our area unique while building a vibrant, sustainable future for everyone.
I want the Port of Auckland managed responsibly, balancing economic value, sustainability, and community impacts. The Auckland Future Fund must be used wisely with transparent governance to support long-term growth without burdening future generations. I will advocate for storm recovery by maintaining drains, restoring green spaces, and planning new developments with climate risks in mind.
