Candidate for Hibiscus and Bays Local Board (Hibiscus Coast Subdivision)
I have proudly called Hatfields Beach home since 2003. With a strong background in engineering, project management, and governance, I bring a practical, results-driven approach to local decision-making. I am standing for the Local Board to help shape a resilient, well-connected, and inclusive community. My key priorities include improving public transport on the coast, especially protecting ferry services from Gulf Harbour, addressing coastal erosion and climate impacts with sustainable solutions, and ensuring our community facilities keep pace with rapid growth and diverse needs. My governance experience means I know how to collaborate effectively, manage funds responsibly, and deliver on priorities. I’m committed to listening to local voices and representing our community with integrity and action. Let’s protect what makes the Coast special, while planning smartly for the future.
If elected, I will work to improve public transport links, including Gulf Harbour ferry services, improve cycling links to public transport, work to address coastal erosion and climate impacts, and ensure community facilities keep pace with growth. I’ll bring practical, results-driven leadership, manage resources responsibly, and represent the Hibiscus Coast community with integrity, collaboration, and a focus on long-term sustainability.
I bring extensive experience in engineering, project management, and governance, with a proven ability to deliver practical, sustainable solutions. Skilled in collaboration, strategic planning, and responsible financial management, I listen to community voices and act with integrity. My results-driven approach will ensure effective decision-making and positive outcomes for the Hibiscus Coast.
I’m passionate about creating reliable, accessible transport so our community can stay connected and get around efficiently; effectively protecting our coastlines from erosion and climate impacts to preserve them for future generations; and ensuring community services grow with our population so every resident—young, old, and in between—has the support and facilities they need to thrive on the Hibiscus Coast.
My priorities are to improve public transport service locally, enhance cycling facilities, and secure the future of the Gulf Harbour Ferry. I will advocate for the Whangaparāoa Bus Interchange alongside improved public transport to ease congestion for everyone, and reduce pressure on the Whangaparāoa Road–Hibiscus Coast Highway corridor. Together, these steps will create a safer, more sustainable, and better-connected transport network for the Hibiscus Coast.
I will work with Council and Watercare to invest in reliable water infrastructure, ensuring safe, clean, and affordable drinking water and wastewater services across the Coast. I’ll push for effective stormwater systems to keep our beaches clean and swimmable, and strengthen flood resilience to protect homes and communities from the growing impacts of climate change.
As development continues across the Hibiscus Coast, I will advocate for infrastructure that keeps pace with growth. We need well-planned housing options that suit families of all types, while protecting the character of our communities. I will push for smart, sustainable development that balances growth with green spaces, transport, and community facilities, ensuring the Coast remains a great place to live for current and future generations.
I will support sensible, long-term solutions to protect our coast from erosion and the impacts of climate change, advocating for the preservation of Ōrewa Beach. Protecting and enhancing our parks and green spaces and the Gulf is vital for community wellbeing and biodiversity. I will back local groups working to restore and protect native flora and fauna, ensuring they have the resources to succeed. Together, we can strengthen climate resilience and safeguard the natural environment.
I will advocate for strong public services and ensure council facilities keep pace with growth. This includes maintaining and improving access to libraries, the Leisure Centre, parks, and community spaces so they remain accessible, inclusive, and well-used. By supporting services that foster connection and wellbeing, we can build a stronger, more vibrant community where people of all ages feel supported and engaged.
I will advocate for the infrastructure local businesses need to thrive and will work closely with business associations to support growth and development. By backing events that bring locals and visitors together, we can contribute to more energetic, attractive town centres. As the region continues to grow we need to ensure we meet the needs of the changing population.
Effective local government requires genuine engagement with our communities. As Treaty partners, it is vital that decision-making responds to the needs and aspirations of mana whenua and Māori communities as they express it. I am committed to transparent, responsible governance that manages resources wisely, strengthens trust, and delivers outcomes that support equity, resilience, and long-term wellbeing for our community.
