Candidate for Howick Local Board (Flat Bush Subdivision)
Independent
I'm a proud Kiwi who has called East Auckland home for over 20 years. I'm standing for the Howick Flatbush Local Board because I believe our fast-growing community deserves strong, local voices who understand the challenges we face. Flatbush is full of energy and potential, and I'd love to see our neighbourhoods thrive as we continue to grow. I'm passionate about supporting initiatives that strengthen families and all generations. With spaces where children can learn and play, opportunities for youth, parents, and grandparents to connect and belong. I'll champion local business and economic development, helping keep our community vibrant and resilient especially in these tough economic times. With the right facilities, community hubs, and thoughtfully planned resources, let's keep the pace with growth while protecting what makes this area special. Together, we'll build a more connected, thriving East Auckland. Let's shape our future together.
Kia ora. I'd welcome the privilege of representing our local community on the Howick Local Board because East Auckland is my home and I care deeply about it's future. I believe in strong local voices guiding growth, supporting families/whanau across generations and protecting the character of our community. I will bring a perspective that reflects both our heritage and our future. Supporting the needs and aspirations of those who live, work and raise their families here in Flatbush/Ormiston.
I bring over 20 years of experience in communications, marketing and community engagement. I'm skilled at listening, connecting with diverse groups, and turning ideas into action. My strengths are advocacy and building collaboration across different viewpoints. I value integrity and accountability.
My top priorities are ensuring local infrastructure and transport keep up with rapid growth; supporting small businesses and local economic development; and creating safe accessible spaces for families/whanau across generations building better community connection. I believe Howick deserves a strong advocate that can balance development with protecting what makes our area unique, while pushing for investment in services and opportunities that help our community thrive.
For Flatbush I would like to see better public transport and sooner. East Auckland has had a lot of disruption with the transport layouts and infrastructure to it's future benefit but it's been a heck of a long time if you are living here and raising a family here. Better roading layouts to suit the large family homes that Flatbush has. The streets need to be wider with more parking spaces.
Better management around Auckland's water issues. Maintain quality and consistent supply. Economically responsible. Lets take advantage of innovation.
Auckland has urban and suburban character built on cultural and economic history. I'd like that to be celebrated and preserved in its areas. In Flatbush there is a lot of new and continuing development. And It makes sense to continue that in the area.
As we build, let's maintain those natural spaces as enhancing our lifestyle and providing the gift that New Zealand is known for being clean and green.
Flatbush could benefit from more large public communal spaces available to gather. Large extended family gatherings or community groups that aren't yet established in their own venue require spaces to meet. Also many backyards are very small and I'd like to see more playgrounds available for children to play close to home. Local events to promote the character and gathering of community.
I would like local business to be better supported through promoting buying local, better business networks, and more local events, business support services and advocacy to Auckland Council and beyond.
