David Alfred COLLINGS

Candidate for Howick Local Board (Flat Bush Subdivision)

C&R - Communities and Residents

Candidate statement

David Collings, (current Howick Local Board member) is honoured to be nominated to represent the Flat Bush, Ormiston community. Previously a Manukau City Councillor, has always supported Barry Curtis Park development, Ormiston Town Centre, and the iconic Ormiston Bridge which all set the scene for this wonderful area. However he feels that we have been let down with council services, and will advocate strongly for completion of a council Library, Community Centre, Pool and Leisure Centre. With such a multicultural population there is much need for these facilities to serve as a heart for the area where people come together. David is known for getting things done through his local government experience and passion for the community and will ensure past financial development contributions are directed back to our area to ensure we have quality facilities like the rest of Auckland. Vote David Collings and all C&R Candidates.

Why I want to be elected

David, a previous Manukau City Councillor, has always supported Barry Curtis Park, Ormiston Town Centre, and iconic Ormiston Bridge which sets the scene for this wonderful area. We have been let down by council for many years, I’ll focus strongly for the development of a Library, Community Centre, Aquatic Centre (Pool) and Leisure/Fitness Centre. These facilities are very important to the wonderful multicultural community and are needed as a heart for the area where people can come together.

My key skills and qualities

David is known for getting things done, his local government experience and passion for the community will ensure past financial development contributions are directed back to our area to ensure we have quality facilities up to the high standard of the rest of Auckland. With 27 years of experience he fully understands council processes and how to plan for future council asset development. “I worked years with many regional councillors and know collaboration is key, delivering for the community.

My top three key issues

ROADS need to be safe, well maintained, providing for reasonable speeds of movement for residents and goods and public transport and allow for provision of walking and cycling in a safe manner. RUBBISH needs to be collected weekly, I oppose the proposal by council to only to collect it fortnightly. And systems such as kitchen waste and recycling collection need to be easy for people. RATES needs to be spent wisely, by ensuring that council operates efficiently in all that it does.
