Toa GREENING

Candidate for Manurewa Local Board

#LoveManurewa

Candidate statement

Toa Greening is a familiar name in our community, has served on Manukau and Auckland Councils alongside local legends Sir Barry Curtis, Sir John Walker and Colleen Brown KSO. As a local resident, he understands the heartbeat of our neighbourhoods and is committed to making them safer and more connected. Toa has volunteered for 22 years as Treasurer/Secretary for the Manurewa Crimewatch Patrol, working tirelessly to enhance community safety. A former New Zealand masters swimming champion, he enjoys being active with water sports, mountain biking and adventure trips with the family. Toa supports strong schools, thriving sports clubs and ensuring opportunities for the next generation. An exciting career in Information Engineering and professional member of Engineering NZ, Toa thrives on implementing innovative solutions. With his experience, vision and leadership, Toa Greening is ready to serve Manurewa once again. Two Council votes Joseph Allan, Cunningham-Marino. Eight Local Board votes #LoveManurewa.

Why I want to be elected

I wish to use my proven leadership in governance, business, and advocacy to serve our community at the Council table. My experience complements the strengths of the #LoveManurewa team. We bring a diverse and united set of skills that form a powerful force for positive change. Together, we’re committed to safer streets, community focused policies, and a thriving Manurewa. I’m passionate about building a future that reflects our community’s values and needs.

My key skills and qualities

With a strong track record in Council governance, I bring proven leadership from running a successful IT consultancy and serving on company boards. My long-term involvement in volunteer charitable organisations reflects deep community commitment. I’ve actively lobbied for increased police presence, responsible alcohol policies, and community safety initiatives. This experience blends strategic business insight with a passion for public service and creating safer, more resilient communities.

My top three key issues

#LoveManurewa will prioritise maintaining existing assets to avoid demolitions like Tadmor Hall. This year’s budget boost, won through fairer funding championed by Joseph Allan when Board Chair, was a chance to invest more in maintenance — but it was missed in favour of new initiatives. We will work with Auckland Council to access regional budgets, deliver better outcomes for Manurewa, address roaming dogs, improve transport options and support your choice for weekly rubbish collections.
