Candidate statement
I have been an elected member of the Tamaki subdivision for the past 15 years, serving as Chair and Deputy Chair during that time. I have lived and worked in Tamaki for over 40 years. This year I am standing as an independent for many reasons, one being I want to represent the whole community and not take direction from Parliamentary Parties which can have consequences for our community. I have led in various capacities, in Social Services at the GI Family Centre, the Tamaki Community Patrols, the Matariki Light Trail. I have collaborated with local organizations and groups such as the Pacific Wardens, Te Waipuna Pauwai, Ruapotaka Marae, Tamaki Community Development Trust, The Petal Foundation and others. I also have strong connections with local schools and churches. I have led other governance roles, with Auckland Rugby League (ARL), and the Manukau Harbour Forum, to name a few.
