Candidate statement

Mālō e lelei, I'm Dianna Fuka. I'm a proud Tongan and have called Aotearoa New Zealand home for the last 30 years. My journey has been grounded in community service, advocacy, and a passion for creating a better future for all. I believe in the power of strong, united communities where everyone - no matter their background - feels supported, heard, and valued. I'm especially committed to empowering our youth, standing beside families during challenging times, and pushing for real solutions around safer housing, more accessible and reliable public transport, and urgent action on climate change. These are not just policies - they are foundations for a thriving future. My lived experience and strong cultural values drive me to serve with heart, honesty, and a deep respect for people. Together, we can make a real difference and build a future where no one is left behind. Let's move forward together.

Why I want to be elected

I am standing for election to serve my community with integrity, respect, and compassion, creating safer, healthier, and connected neighbourhoods. I will advocate for youth, families, and elders, ensure everyone’s voice is heard, promote cultural respect, and support opportunities in education, housing, and wellbeing for all.

My key skills and qualities

I bring extensive experience in community service, advocacy, and leadership, guiding decisions with empathy, fairness, and collaboration. Skilled in problem-solving and building trust, I listen to all voices, support families and individuals, and work persistently to create positive, lasting change that strengthens and empowers the entire community.

My top three key issues

Affordable Housing and Safe Neighbourhoods: I am committed to ensuring safe, affordable housing and secure, connected neighbourhoods. Stable homes and well-designed, inclusive communities provide families with dignity, opportunity, and wellbeing. By collaborating with stakeholders, promoting safety, and fostering social cohesion, we can create thriving, resilient environments where children, families, and communities can flourish. Better Access to Health, Transport, and Education: I am committed to ensuring all residents have access to quality health care, reliable transport, and strong educational opportunities. Removing barriers in these areas empowers families, supports children’s potential, and strengthens communities. By promoting equity, accessibility, and culturally responsive services, we can build healthier, safer, and more resilient neighbourhoods for everyone. Community Engagement: Community engagement means fostering trust and connection by listening, communicating openly, and involving residents in decision-making. By supporting inclusive programs that empower families and youth, we can strengthen relationships, encourage participation, and create a community where everyone feels valued, heard, and actively involved in shaping their neighbourhood’s future.
