Candidate for Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board (Tāmaki Subdivision)
Labour
First elected in the 2018 by-election, I bring extensive experience in governance, advocacy and grassroots leadership. As Chair of the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board since 2021, I've led community driven initiatives focused on real, lasting outcomes. My 25-year career at the University of Auckland supporting adult learners reflects a strong commitment to education and equity. I also bring experience from the business sector, trust boards, church leadership, and the health and disability fields - providing a well-rounded and informed perspective. A proud Glen Innes resident for over 40 years, mother of four, and grandmother, I remain deeply connected to our community. If re-elected, I'll continue to advocate for safe neighbourhoods, better transport, empowered youth, environmental protection and stronger local businesses. Together, we can build a more vibrant, inclusive and resilient Tāmaki. Vote for me and the full Labour team - trusted, experienced, and committed to our community's future.
As Chair of the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board since 2021, I bring proven leadership, deep community roots, and decades of governance and business experience. Since first being elected in 2018, I’ve been a strong voice for Tāmaki—driven to build a safer, more connected, and thriving community that delivers real opportunities and lasting prosperity for future generations.
With 25 years at the University of Auckland supporting adult learners, I bring broad experience in education, business, health, disability, and faith. A Glen Innes resident for over 40 years, I’m a proud mother and grandparent with deep community roots. It’s a privilege to serve, and I’m dedicated to building a strong, inclusive, and resilient Tāmaki for today and future generations.
I will champion community safety, support local programmes, and lead environmental projects that promote sustainability. I’m passionate about these priorities because they ensure our growing community has the services, facilities, and safe, sustainable spaces needed to thrive today and for generations to come.
I will prioritize safe and efficient local roads, reliable public transport, and improved cycling and walking paths. My focus is on creating accessible, connected, and sustainable transport options that meet the needs of our growing community and support a healthier, more active Tāmaki.
Auckland’s water should be managed with a safe, reliable supply, high water quality, and resilient stormwater and wastewater systems. By investing in sustainable practices, infrastructure upgrades, and community education, we can protect our waterways, support population growth, and safeguard the environment for future generations.
Auckland’s growth must balance housing, infrastructure, and heritage protection. Smart urban development that is targeted should deliver affordable, well-serviced homes while preserving our character and historic sites. Infrastructure investment must keep pace with population growth, creating connected, resilient, and vibrant communities for today and future generations.
Protecting Auckland’s natural spaces, biodiversity, and climate resilience is vital for current and future generations. Guided by Māori values of whanaungatanga and kaitiakitanga, we preserve habitats and waterways, promote sustainable planning, and foster community stewardship. Partnerships with iwi and environmental groups ensure culturally informed, resilient, and vibrant solutions for our city.
I hope to build strong, connected communities by supporting accessible local services, well-maintained facilities, and inclusive community programmes. Prioritising safety, recreation, and social engagement, I will foster collaboration with iwi, community groups, and organisations to ensure services meet local needs, strengthen wellbeing, and create vibrant, resilient neighbourhoods for Tāmaki residents.
My vision is to boost economic growth by supporting local businesses, attracting investment, and creating job opportunities. I will champion initiatives that celebrate and preserve our cultural heritage, promote arts and tourism, and ensure that economic development strengthens local community identity, fosters innovation, and benefits all residents while respecting our unique history and culture.
Māori outcomes can be delivered by partnering with iwi and hapū, ensuring culturally informed decision-making. I support sustainable management of the Port of Auckland, strategic growth of the Auckland Future Fund, and resilient planning to aid storm recovery. Together, these actions strengthen our economy, environment, and community wellbeing for all.
