Candidate for Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board (Papatoetoe Subdivision)
C&R - Communities and Residents
Kia ora, I'm Chris Latham, and I'm passionate about helping our vibrant community thrive. Papatoetoe is a cultural melting pot, rich in diversity and strength. I live locally and work at Papatoetoe High School, which keeps me closely connected to the everyday lives and aspirations of our community. As a candidate for C&R Communities and Residents, I'm committed to putting the needs of our residents first - focusing on local safety, quality infrastructure, and supporting small businesses to thrive. I believe in Otara-Papatoetoe's future and want to help build a more prosperous, connected community where families feel safe, streets are well-maintained, and community voices are heard. I bring a balanced approach to decision-making, prioritising responsible spending and effective local services. I am honoured to earn your support. Vote Chris Latham and C&R.
As a proud Papatoetoe local working at Papatoetoe High School, I see daily what matters most to our community—safer streets, cleaner neighbourhoods, and reliable local services. I’m committed to focusing on the basics that improve daily life. I support responsible growth, sensible spending, and making sure every voice in Papatoetoe is heard and valued. I’ll bring balanced, community-focused leadership that delivers real results and helps our community thrive.
I bring strong local insight from working at Papatoetoe High School and being an active Papatoetoe Central Rotarian involved in community programs. These roles have strengthened my leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. I’m deeply committed to listening to residents and balancing community needs with sensible spending. My focus is on responsible decision-making to deliver effective, lasting improvements that support Papatoetoe’s growth and future success.
• Keep our community clean: Maintain weekly rubbish collection, take strong action against illegal dumping for a cleaner Papatoetoe • Enhance public safety and infrastructure: Better manage dirt bike disruptions, invest in fixing cracked footpaths and roads to create safer, more walkable neighbourhoods for all ages. • Ensure fair and inclusive representation: Make sure every community and age group has a strong voice in local governance.
At C&R Communities and Residents in Papatoetoe, our priority is safer, well-maintained roads with less congestion. We support reliable, affordable public transport with more frequent buses and improved shelters. Our focus is on practical, people-centered solutions that improve safety for all road users—drivers, pedestrians, and public transport users—ensuring our community stays connected and protected every day.
As the C&R Candidate for Papatoetoe, I believe Auckland’s water must be managed sustainably and practically. I support reliable water supply through smart conservation and infrastructure upgrades. Protecting water quality means preventing pollution from runoff. For stormwater, better drainage can reduce flooding. Wastewater systems need proper maintenance to protect health and the environment. My focus is on transparent, community-first management that keeps Papatoetoe safe and resilient.
As the C&R Candidate for Papatoetoe, I believe Auckland’s urban development must balance growth with preserving the unique character of our communities. We need affordable, quality housing that meets local needs without overloading infrastructure. Upgrading roads, public transport, and essential services is key to supporting this growth. At the same time, protecting our heritage and green spaces ensures Papatoetoe retains its identity and remains a great place to live for generations to come.
I believe protecting Auckland’s natural spaces starts with practical, community-led actions. We must preserve local parks and green areas while supporting initiatives that restore native biodiversity. Improving stormwater management helps protect our waterways from pollution. Building climate resilience means investing in infrastructure that can withstand extreme weather, while encouraging sustainable practices across our community to keep Papatoetoe safe and thriving for the future.
I plan to build strong, connected communities by listening closely to residents and supporting grassroots initiatives that bring people together. Improving local services means ensuring facilities like libraries, parks, and community centres are well maintained and accessible to all. I will advocate for programs that promote wellbeing, including youth activities, health support, and cultural events, so everyone in Papatoetoe feels valued, supported, and connected.
my vision for boosting economic growth focuses on supporting local businesses through practical initiatives like improved infrastructure, better transport links, and streamlined regulations. I want to create opportunities for small businesses to thrive, helping to create jobs and strengthen our community. Promoting our rich cultural heritage is key—celebrating diversity through events and partnerships that showcase Papatoetoe’s unique identity and bring people together.
I support strong Māori partnerships that respect Te Tiriti and uplift culture and economic opportunities. While the Port is outside our area, I back balanced management for economic and community wellbeing. The Auckland Future Fund should focus on sustainable projects benefiting all Aucklanders. For storm recovery, I advocate quick, transparent support to help communities rebuild stronger and more resilient for the future.
