Candidate for Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board (Papatoetoe Subdivision)
Papatoetoe-Otara Action Team
Vote Kushma Nair - Experience You Can Trust I've lived and worked in Papatoetoe for over 28 years - first as a banker, and now as a local business owner at Hunters Corner. I understand the value of hard work, safety, and community stability. As a former Hunters Corner Town Centre board member, I've worked to make our town centre cleaner, safer, and more welcoming for everyone. I'm standing for the local board to ensure your rates are spent wisely, crime is tackled firmly, and our community feels safe and supported. Your voice matters. Together, we can make Papatoetoe better for all - especially for our seniors and families who have built this community. As an Papatoetoe Otara action candidate Kushma wants to retain the weekly rubbish household collection for Public Health and cleanliness. Please vote for Kushma Nair and every action candidate.
If I am elected I wish to be the voice for the Ratepayers of Papatoetoe and will ensure I hold accountable ALL agencies for services that should be provided in the area for our families and businesses. All Grants provided should benefit the ward and be used wisely to cater for needs.
I bring over 28 years of banking experience in Auckland and the past 13 years as the owner of a kitchen manufacturing business in Hunters Corner, Papatoetoe. I’ve proudly served on the Hunters Corner Town Centre Society Board in 2024 and am a active member of the TISI Sangam Charitable Trust, supporting cultural and sporting events across our community. I am a family man and have brought up 3 adult children in Auckland who are qualified Lawyer, Banker & Nurse and understand the values of life
In the last 12 Years of spending my life in Papatoetoe Ward, I have seen the area grow and has a diverse population. There is a growing concern in the area of the following problems :- 1) Increase in Crime 2) Homelessness 3) Rubbish Dumping 4) Non Availability Public Convenience in Hunters Town Centre 5) Stray Dogs These are some of the basic necessities in the area which has been deteriorating over the years and the community has not been supported. I wish to make a difference and bring change
For the Papatoetoe Ward there has been a number of Housing Developments which has created an influx of traffic around this area .There is an immediate need for re-visiting the routes around the area and designing the roading to ensure safety is maintained for all users, students, cycling, cars, and public transport services needs to be looked into to handle peak hours .
With an increase in housing development in the Area , there is a need to ensure sufficient planning is done with the Services to ensure the current infrastructure is able to sustain the growth and investments is necessary to upgrade facilities , stormwater, water supply.
Auckland has had a huge influx of new housing development around all suburbs and there is a need for futher improvement in various facilities around the urban areas as these developments also bring in new residents in the area which means an increase in demand for facilities. With the development, careful planning is required to ensure the Heritage Buildings and Landmarks are protected to ensure history of the area is preserved.
It is important to ensure Natural resources are preserved and put in good use for the enjoyment of all citizens. With the increased building activity it should be noted to ensure developers are maitaining the natural surrounding and resources and preventing any damage to protected spaces.
I plan to avail my time as a representative of the Local Board to hear and assist ALL communities with their concerns in regards to any issues involving the Council or any other Agencies to ensure everyone is accountable to uphold their services to ensure the communities are cared for in the Ward.
I wish to work closely with the Local Business Community and the residents to see that Papatoetoe Ward improves their lives by ensuring we work with Agencies to help homeless and reduce crime in the Area. Support ALL communities and help introduce community programmes to assist with economic growth and preserve cultural Heritage.
I believe we provide funding and grants for Projects with ALL the communities in mind and introduce community based funding to help with community projects to cater for needs which will benefit ALL residents and improve lifestyle. All Grant/Funding to be monitored to ensure it is being used for the communities needs.
