Candidate for Papakura Local Board
I am hoping to provide a non political and different new blood to our Papakura. My background is in Corporate Management, Finance and Accounting. I have recently retired after working in and with some of the largest NZ businesses. I believe in community led abilities and solutions. Current new housing developments has stressed our various infrastructures. My priorities for Papakura are to improve transport and roading, boost employment opportunities by encouraging new businesses, empower our people to be self reliant. (the can-do attitude). Papakura youth unemployment is worrying. Youth training and mentoring requires our leaders and our senior citizens to actively transfer knowledge, skills and civic ethics. I will greatly appreciate your precious vote for me.
I believe, I can provide a non political and a different out look to my Papakura community. Papakura is now a diverse community requiring different policies.
My professional background is in Corporate Management, Finance and Accounting. I feel these skills will be of value to our local board. My mature life skills will be an added bonus.
My priorities for our Papakura community are to improve transport and roading, boost employment opportunities by encouraging new businesses and empowering our people to be self reliant with a can do attitude. I belief our senior citizens with their skills should be encouraged to mentor our youth into small businesses and startups. Our youth are our future.
With a greater housing density in Papakura we need more local public transport options including cycling, walking, student walk trains and more bus services. Action need to be taken to make it happen. Otherwise it will only sit in our current 10 year plan.
Papakura water supply and system should be transferred to the Auckland Water Care control. Amalgamation will provide the economies of scale needed to lower water costs.
Urban development especially housing should be encouraged only after corresponding infrastructure like utilities, roading, schooling and medical facilities are built and in service. Economy growth is good only if done with environmental constraints.
I am all for protecting and enhancing our environment in any way possible. Our environment is our house and we all need a healthy home. Auckland has a 10 year plan which needs to be auctioned and incorporated with every development undertaken.
I like to get all our senior citizens to help with our youth under utilization and build a strong can do attitude. Plus encourage our communities to contribute by providing solutions that fit our local needs like unemployment and crime.
Every person can becomes a net contributor by getting involved. I will encourage our diverse community to setup systems and ways to provide opportunities for employment and recreation.
Maori voice for Maori solutions. A seat at the table for Maori outcomes. Public storm recovery must rest with local and central government but private storm recovery must rest with private insurers. Local authorities should only proceed with what is needed not what will be nice to have or want. Accordingly, Rates must be based on need too.
