Candidate for Puketāpapa Local Board
C&R - Communities and Residents
I hold a Master's degree in Chemistry and bring over 28 years of professional experience, including eight years as a teacher and 20 years at AssureQuality in Lynfield, where I currently work as a Scientist. My wife and I have lived in this community for decades and raised our daughter here. For over 20 years, I've been actively involved in community initiatives - from fundraising for charities to organising blood drives, sports events, and tree-planting programs. These efforts have helped me build strong connections across the Asian and wider communities. I've served as President of the NZ Telugu Association and currently sit on the Business Committee of the NZ Indian Central Association. My vision is for a strong, safe, and inclusive Puketāpapa where every voice is heard. I bring people skills, leadership, and deep community spirit to this role. Vote Bala Venu Beeram and all C&R Candidates.
I am Bala Venu Beeram, a proud long-term resident of this community, where my wife and I have raised our daughter. I’m standing for our community because I care deeply about the issues that affect us. My vision is for a strong, safe, and inclusive Puketāpapa where every voice matters. I believe in prudent spending, fair outcomes for ratepayers, and building vibrant, connected communities. With collaborative leadership and a passion for service, I will work to ensure our neighbourhood thrives.
I hold a master’s degree in chemistry and bring more than 28 years of professional experience, including 8 years as a teacher and 20 years as a Scientist at AsureQuality in Lynfield. Beyond my career, I have actively contributed to local life through organising blood drives, tree planting, and cultural and sports events, fostering inclusion and connection. I have served as President of the NZ Telugu Association and currently sit on the Business Committee of the NZ Indian Central Association.
I’m passionate about these issues because they affect all of us- every day. 1. Fighting to keep your rates low and a fair deal for rate payers. 2. Delivering common-sense transport solutions to fix Auckland’s gridlock. 3. Making Puketāpapa a safer place to live, work, and play. I’m not here to play politics — I’m here to represent everyday people and deliver real results. If you want someone who listens, acts, and puts community first, I’m ready to work for you.
My priority is a balanced, practical transport network that works for everyone. I’ll support reliable public transport, safer roads, better walking and cycling connections, and smarter investment to ease congestion. We need common-sense solutions that improve daily travel without adding extra costs to families. Together, we can create a connected Auckland that’s easier and safer to move around for all ages and abilities.
Auckland’s water must be managed responsibly to ensure long-term supply, high quality, and environmental protection. I support investing in resilient infrastructure, reducing water loss, and protecting our natural waterways. Stormwater and wastewater systems need urgent upgrades to prevent flooding and pollution. We must plan for future growth, work with communities, and ensure water services remain affordable and accountable to the public.
Auckland’s growth must be managed thoughtfully to balance new housing, infrastructure, and heritage protection. I support affordable, well-designed housing that meets community needs without compromising green spaces or local character. Infrastructure must keep pace with development to support quality of life. Protecting our heritage is vital to maintain our unique identity while planning for a sustainable, inclusive future that benefits all Aucklanders.
Protecting Auckland’s natural spaces and biodiversity is essential for a healthy future. I support expanding green areas, restoring native habitats, and reducing pollution. We must promote climate resilience by investing in sustainable practices, protecting waterways, and preparing communities for climate impacts. Encouraging community involvement and education will help preserve our environment and ensure Auckland remains vibrant and sustainable for generations to come.
I plan to build strong, connected communities by supporting inclusive local events, improving access to quality facilities, and ensuring services meet diverse needs. I’ll advocate for better funding for parks, libraries, and community centers, and promote programs that enhance mental health and wellbeing. By fostering collaboration between residents, iwi, and local groups, we can create vibrant neighborhoods where everyone feels valued, supported, and connected.
I envision a thriving Auckland where local businesses flourish through better support, streamlined regulations, and opportunities for innovation. I’ll champion initiatives that boost job creation and skills development. Promoting our rich cultural heritage is key to economic growth, attracting tourism and celebrating diversity. By connecting business with culture and community, we can build a vibrant economy that benefits everyone and honors our unique identity.
I’m committed to delivering meaningful Māori outcomes by partnering with iwi in decision-making and honoring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Managing the Port of Auckland sustainably ensures economic benefits while protecting the environment. Growing the Auckland Future Fund requires smart investments that support long-term community wellbeing. For storm recovery, I’ll prioritize resilient infrastructure and swift support to affected communities, helping Auckland adapt and rebuild stronger for the future.
