Candidate for Puketāpapa Local Board
C&R - Communities and Residents
I'm Brendan Larmer. A proud local, husband, and father raising my family right here in Mount Roskill. I've lived in this community my entire life, and I'm guided by a simple belief: when we look after our families, work hard and support each other our whole community benefits. As a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years of experience, I bring a hardworking, practical, and solutions-oriented mindset, whether it's helping local businesses thrive or delivering smart, effective outcomes for our neighbourhood. Volunteering is part of who I am: from supporting local schools, sports clubs, and events to quietly pitching in wherever help is needed. I believe in action over talk and outcomes over promises. With rates and the cost of living on the rise, practical, financially sound decisions matter. If elected, I'll bring a no-nonsense, common-sense approach to the Puketāpapa Local Board. For strong local representation, Vote Brendan Larmer. Vote C&R.
I’m Brendan Larmer a proud local, husband, and father raising my family right here in Mount Roskill. I’ve been a part of this community my entire life, and I’m guided by a simple belief: when we look after our families, work hard and support each other our whole community benefits. With rates and the cost of living on the rise, practical, financially sound decisions matter. If elected, I’ll bring a no-nonsense, common-sense approach to the Puketāpapa Local Board.
As a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years of accountancy experience, I bring a hardworking, practical, and solutions-oriented mindset whether it’s helping local businesses thrive or delivering smart, effective outcomes for our neighbourhoods. Volunteering is also part of who I am from supporting local schools, sports clubs, and events to quietly pitching in wherever help is needed. I believe in action over talk and outcomes over promises.
Rates – For too long, rate increases have far outstripped inflation. It’s time to rein in costs and refocus spending on core services that deliver real value and sustainable investments to our communities. Roads – We need faster, better-coordinated maintenance and practical projects to reduce peak-hour congestion and keep our city moving. Rubbish – Weekly rubbish collection is a core council service and must be protected. I will strongly oppose any move to make it fortnightly.
I will prioritise affordable, practical transport options that reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and shorten travel times. I’ll advocate for smarter, staged maintenance with minimal peak-hour disruption and less traffic management cones for all users. I will back investment in reliable public transport options and well-maintained roads. I’ll advocate for transportation projects that delivers real value for ratepayers while helping families and businesses get where they need to go.
I will prioritise reliable, future-proofed water infrastructure to safeguard supply and quality through timely upgrades and maintenance. I’ll support modern stormwater and wastewater systems to reduce pollution and protect public health. Encourage a more systematic approach to clearing culverts in areas prone to flooding and deciduous trees and plants. Applying lessons from the 2023 Auckland Anniversary floods, I’ll back smarter, resilient infrastructure to manage flood risks.
I will support well-planned growth that meets community needs while protecting neighbourhood character. I’ll prioritise affordable, well-located housing close proximity to jobs and transport options. Plan for investment in infrastructure that keeps pace with development. Encourage a practical, commonsense approach to heritage buildings, ensuring they remain a valued part of Auckland’s identity whilst allowing for growth.
I will apply the lessons learned from the 2023 Auckland Anniversary floods to build a more resilient Auckland. This includes investing in smarter, future-proofed infrastructure, improving stormwater and flood management and supporting practical, local solutions to protect homes, businesses and green spaces from future flooding events. My focus will be on proactive measures that safeguard our communities and strengthen Auckland’s resilience for generations to come.
The diversity of Aucklanders is a key strength to be celebrated and shared. I’ll advocate to maintain and improve community facilities, parks and public spaces and support events and initiatives that bring people together. I’ll do my part to keep local government accessible, responsive and connected to the people it serves. I’ll prioritise decisions that strengthen wellbeing, foster belonging and meet the needs of all cultures ensuring our community remain vibrant, inclusive and resilient.
I will strongly advocate to keep council focused on efficiently delivering core services whilst actively reducing unnecessary bureaucracy to promote economic growth. Celebrate Auckland’s cultural heritage and development by backing community-led initiatives.
I will ensure decisions today serve future generations by focusing on meaningful engagement to deliver genuine outcomes for Māori and all Aucklanders. Both the Port of Auckland and Auckland Future Fund from my point of view are long-term investments for the benefit of current and future generations of Aucklanders. I’ll apply lessons from the 2023 Auckland Anniversary floods and continue investing in climate-adapted infrastructure to help mitigate damage from future storms.
