Candidate statement

I’m seeking re-election to the Rodney Local Board. Over the past three years, I’ve delivered real, local results – safer roads, extended footpaths, upgraded playgrounds, and strong investment in renewing our halls and sports facilities. I’ve worked hard to support community groups, local sports clubs, and the volunteers who help our towns thrive. Local youth have benefited from free mentoring and family events held in our parks. I’m proud to serve as a local Justice of the Peace, a trustee of the Helensville District Health Trust, and a committee member of the Helensville Tennis Club. I believe in practical, common-sense leadership that puts community before politics. I’m committed to protecting our rural and coastal character, advocating for infrastructure that matches growth, and ensuring the board operates maturely and effectively. If you want a board member who listens, works hard, and delivers real results, I’d be honoured to have your vote.

My name is Geoff Upson; I have done one term in opposition. I've watched your rates get wasted on overpriced consultants for projects which will never go ahead, and I've seen money get taken away from critical maintenance in favour of budget lines which provide almost no benefit to the community. After this election I am hopeful that we have a local board made up of 9 good honest people to get some common-sense decision making for Rodney. I have learnt the hard way I can't fix council on my own and that's why my brother has offered to help me fix council on your behalf. Please give Rob Upson your 2nd vote to help fix council. This will be a very tight election, please vote Geoff Upson and Rob Upson for the Rural South/Southern Kaipara subdivision of the Rodney Local Board.

I am standing to help turn things around and steer council back on track. I am concerned about how rates are being mis-managed leaving critical infrastructure and council assets in a state of disrepair. I'm a hard-working professional with both local and international experience with a trade background. A vote for Rob Upson will help support the new team in council pushing for a positive change and a common-sense approach to create a better community for us all. My principal place of residence is in the Warkworth subdivision of the Rodney Local board but, due to the lack of good candidates standing in the Rural South/Southern Kaipara subdivision of the Rodney Local board, I am standing here to support my brother Geoff Upson. I am willing to step forward and invest my time to help push for a common-sense approach. Vote Rob Upson!
