Waitākere Licensing Trust (Ward No. 3 - Waitākere)

    Future West

    Candidate statement

I've lived out west almost my entire life and one of the community cornerstones has been the Waitākere Licensing Trust, responsibly selling alcohol and a vital funder of the community. I'm running again because I believe the Trust can be an even stronger responsible business and deliver even more community good. We have set it onto a stronger path providing higher quality franchise stores with more choice and better value. We have cut over $7m in costs, increased giveback, fixed buildings, paid living-wage and expanded our stores, whilst responding to storms, a degrading economy and tightening regulatory world. But The Trusts need to give more money back as well as refresh and grow our venues to keep up with our growing - changing community. We need more youth retail/hospitality pathways and support community venues to be more successful and profitable. Let's keep building a Trust that truly serves the west.

Waitākere Licensing Trust (Ward No. 3 - Waitākere)

    Trusts Action Group

    Candidate statement

I was raised in Oratia and now reside in Karekare - West Auckland is in my blood. I’ve served our community as Chairman and Chief of the Karekare Volunteer Fire Brigade, and I run a local marine engineering business. I’m standing with the West Auckland Licensing Trust Action Group (WALTAG) because I believe it’s time for real change. Most West Aucklanders have never had the chance to vote on the alcohol monopoly - the last referendum was more than 20 years ago. That’s not right. I support a new vote, and a modern model that delivers more hospitality choice, fewer pokies, and more money returned to our community. I want full transparency, and I believe the two Trusts should be amalgamated for greater efficiency and accountability. Let’s bring the Trusts into the 21st century and give West Aucklanders the say they deserve.
