I’m a dedicated local leader, community advocate, and proud Westie. I believe in thriving communities, transparent local decision-making, and protecting the places we love. I will champion accessible, responsive local decision-making that is grounded in community values, advocate for improved urban design, resilient infrastructure, and continued protection of our environment. My professional experience spans the education, science, and manufacturing sectors, encompassing product development, research, capital projects, educator and specialist support, as well as leadership roles. I bring 15 years of hands-on governance and community leadership experience across the education and not-for-profit sectors. I serve as Presiding Member of a school board and have held governance roles at local, regional, and national levels within Playcentre Aotearoa, including as Co-President. These roles have strengthened my ability to lead strategically, collaborate effectively, and deliver meaningful outcomes. I’m committed to connecting our people and championing our place. Vote Michelle Hutton and Future West.
I’m committed to ensuring local government is responsive and that decisions reflect our community’s values. I’m passionate about protecting the Waitākere Ranges by championing local priorities and community-led solutions. I will advocate strongly for public investment that delivers quality services, fair value for rates, and a thriving, resilient West Auckland where the environment and people can flourish together.
I bring 15 years of collaborative governance experience across education and not-for-profits, serving as Presiding Member of a school board and Co-President of Playcentre Aotearoa. Alongside this, my professional background in education, science, and manufacturing strengthens my strategic leadership. I listen carefully, value diverse perspectives, and make transparent, evidence-based decisions to deliver meaningful outcomes grounded in community values.
1. Champion people-centred urban design that creates connected, vibrant communities. 2. Deliver resilient infrastructure to withstand extreme weather and protect wellbeing. 3. Protect our unique environment, including the Waitākere Ranges’ biodiversity and heritage.
I’ll push for safe, accessible transport options that meet our community’s needs. This includes reliable public transport extended to isolated communities, free park-and-rides, and well-maintained roads and footpaths to ensure safety and accessibility for everyone. My focus is on practical solutions that improve mobility while respecting our unique environment and conditions.
We must ensure a safe, reliable supply of drinking water through sustainable use, infrastructure upgrades, and climate resilience planning to protect our communities and the environment. I’ll support improved wastewater systems to prevent pollution, which will improve the health of our streams, harbours, and beaches. I’ll advocate for a mix of engineered and natural solutions—from improved stormwater systems to wetland restoration—to build resilience against extreme weather.
As a Glen Eden local, I see firsthand the pressures intensification brings. I support smart, well-designed growth in the right places—people-centred, climate-resilient, with quality housing and strong infrastructure. I’ll push for local planning that reflects community needs, and ensure new housing is matched with community facilities and transport infrastructure to create vibrant, connected neighbourhoods.
I’ll advocate for greater recognition and resources for the Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area and expand pest and weed control programmes. I support restoring tracks, building climate resilience, and partnerships with local groups to boost community conservation. Committed to preserving our natural beauty, I’ll advance the Climate Action Plan, support a Dark Sky Sanctuary, and work to keep our beaches swimmable year-round.
Thriving societies are built on vibrant, connected communities. I’ll champion well-resourced facilities, accessible services, and inclusive events that build connection, resilience, and opportunity for all ages. I’ll support arts, culture, and youth spaces and programmes, and work with mana whenua, residents, and local groups to deliver projects that strengthen community wellbeing across the Waitākere Ranges.
I’ll back a sustainable local economy that creates good jobs while protecting our environment. I’ll work with businesses to revitalise town centres and grow West Auckland’s tourism, creative, and film sectors. I support investment in training and employment programmes for youth, and policies that help small businesses thrive. I'll support more local events in all our communities, celebrating our diverse cultures, music, and artists in partnership with community organisations.
My focus will be principled, transparent local governance, ensuring we get the best value from our rates. I’ll honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi by fostering genuine partnerships with Te Kawerau ā Maki, Ngāti Whātua, Hoani Waititi and Mataawaka Māori, and support Māori-led initiatives. I’ll ensure investment in infrastructure resilience and recovery planning is equitable and community-focused to protect the people, communities, and environment of West Auckland for future generations.
