Candidate for Waitematā Local Board
C&R - Communities and Residents
I've been part of our city's business community for most of my life, serving customers at the family dairy and later growing to 11 Asian supermarkets across Auckland. We arrived in NZ in 1980 as refugees from Cambodia. I've seen many changes and know we can make it easier to get around - for all modes of transport. I've also seen changes in safety, with security guards helping businesses manage shoplifting and abusive behaviour. Let's make Waitemata a connected, vibrant place where businesses thrive and people feel safe and welcomed. As previous Chairperson of K'Road Business Association for 5 years, I understand business precincts well. I'll challenge wasteful spending, push for evidence-based projects, and advocate for better Asian representation. My long-standing commitment to Auckland and hard-working business experience, I bring a balanced, common-sense approach to make our city safer and more liveable for all. Vote Muy Chhour and all C&R.
I am passionate about making our city safer and more live-able not only for businesses but for all who travel in it whether by car, public transport, bike or foot. I will also question wasteful spending and advocate for evidence-based projects.
I have substantial business experience which extends across many levels from serving customers, stocking shelves, managing supplier orders and deliveries to overseeing resource and building consents, to payroll and accounting. I also served as Chairperson for the Karangahape Road Business Association for 5 years, giving me a strong understanding of business precincts. My business experience brings a balanced, common-sense approach to resolving issues in our city and making it a better city.
Safe and Clean City Common-sense Transport and Parking Solutions Stop wasteful spending
Unlocking the Gridlock Common-sense Transport and Parking Solutions Question wasteful spending - if it is not broken do-not waste money on it. Instead advocate for evidence-based projects. Where is the evidence that shows these projects must be done?

Yes, Auckland needs to grow. However, that growth must remain under local council control. Our heritage and character areas must be protected. Infrastructure needs to be put into place to ensure areas are well serviced and capable for growth. Common sense is essential to creating a balanced and beautiful city.
Natural spaces must be retained and maintained - they are vital to our city and our well-being.
Local services that are well used by the community should be retained. However, if there are activities that have minimal impact on the community, then I would question the need to continue paying for these services.
Where there is evidence of activities or marketing that boosts economic growth and local businesses then they should continue. However, if there is no data to demonstrate their value, I would question the need to keep spending the money on them.
