Candidate for Whau Local Board
Labour
Avondale dad, Kelston old boy, and the voice of your bus, train and ferry commute. Whau needs more and improved green spaces with facilities like built shade, drinking fountains and toilets that make gathering with family and friends more attractive. Staying on track with our tree planting. The work to increase canopy cover for future generations is ongoing. Better public transport, light sequencing and safe biking and walking paths will reduce congestion, increase independence and connection. A healthy city is one that has options to move around easily. Push for equitable funding to protect our community assets from being sold. Increase funding for the arts as well as our local services especially the libraries, hubs and houses to deliver the programs and events we all love. Ensuring that our town centres are people focussed, attractive and safe. A connected community is a safer and happier community.
Make sure that the community get really good outcomes with the limited resources we have. I want be part of a well balanced board that makes good decisions for our constituents
Collaborative, approachable, open. I work well with lots of types of people.
Defend funding for our local services in particular our hubs and houses and libraries as well as our Arts program. They are the crucial glue that keeps our communites connected. Look to increase this circle. Increasing and improving green space and canopy cover. Parks should be places families want to spend time so they to be shaded, serviced and welcoming. Advocate for better transport options that provide real choice. Decrease in car reliance equals increase in overall happiness.
Trains that run during the holidays! Honestly though when will that end. Aside from more reliable and affordable public transport we need infrastructure that makes non road transport a real option. That can be from proper road reallocation to make room for walking or electric transport on busy roadways to increasing the standard with of footpaths on rewnewal. A mobile city is a living city.
Managing water is going to be crucial. The changing climate is already changing the way we live. We need Watercare to be right across the big issues and we the people need to have actionable things we can do to make a difference. We need to be wary of relying on a new technology to save us when there are things we can do now.
Build up around the main transport lines. Built shade in our playgrounds.
Maintain or increase funding for all our major environmental partners eg Ecomatters and Whau River Catchment Trust and supporting our park specialists to tackle invasive weeds especially along the river. Its contstant work that never stops.
Maintain funding to all our hubs and houses and arts groups and continue to grow this network. Their work is absolutely amazing.
