AJC racecourse closes in 2026. High rise towers and terraced housing are planned to blanket the racecourse land. While I support intensification around Avondale/New Lynn town centres, we also need public green spaces. We must fight to retain the sports fields for our children/grandchildren, and ensure Avondale Market's survival. Please support me in our campaign to preserve our largest green space as our top Whau public park. Other goals are to finish Te Whau Pathway and Avondale Community Centre/Library projects. Blockhouse Bay and Green Bay town centres need upgrading and New Lynn needs its Crown Lynn Park. I am an experience Independent candidate with a common sense approach. I am a strong community advocate with a proven track record of achievement in Whau community affairs. Community experience includes Finance Committee Chair on both Waitakere and Auckland Councils, Whau Councillor and Portage Trust President. I've lived in Titirangi for 60 years.
Continue to serve in an honest and conscientious manner as I have done since 2004. I have always been a "common sense" politician with a strong reputation for getting things done; formally at Waitakere City Council and now at Auckland Council. This will not change.
I am an experienced Independent candidate who has shown an ability to work well with others across the political divide. I am a strong community advocate with a proven track record of achievement in Whau community affairs. Community experience includes Finance Committee Chair on both Waitakere Councils, Whau Councillor and Portage President.
As AJC racecourse closes in 2026, we must fight to retain the racecourse sports fields for our children/grandchildren and ensure Avondale Sunday Market's survival. We need more green space. We need to complete the Avondale Library/Community Centre Te Hono and Te Whau Coastal Pathway projects now that they have started. Continue to support and fund our 7 Community Hubs; plus the Whau Ethnic Board and Whau Pasifika Board, to ensure all Whau residents get the best opportunities to thrive and grow.
The Central Rail Link will be a game changer for public transport out West. We must further refine our public transport networks/links to get maximum benefits. As the Patron of Te Whau Coastal Pathway project I a proven champion of active transportation options.
Personally I believe we are extremely lucky to have formed Watercare in 1992. They do an excellent job and the rest of New Zealand are extremely envious of the sound position we in Auckland find themselves with regards to clean drinking water and efficient wastewater treatment solutions.
Supporter of intensification in appropriate town centre locations around public transport hubs as long as sufficient green space/parks are close by. Protection of character and heritage housing needs to be locked in and enforced.
See my comments in other sections above. If you believe climate change is a hoax then you are not living in the real world. Disastrous climate change is well and truely upon us - remember the January 2023 storms !
As I have mentioned above, it is so important we continue to support and fund the 7 Community Hubs that we have in the Whau. Plus ongoing support and funding of our Whau Ethnic Peoples Board and Pasifka Peoples Board to ensure all voices are heard, and everyone can thrive and grow in our very diverse Whau community
Continue to work with our 4 Business Associations - Rosebank, Avondale, New Lynn and Blockhouse Bay - to maximise economic development and employment within the Whau.
The Whau Local Board already have strong ties with Te Kawerau a Maki, Hoani Waititi Marae and the Waipareira Trust - these ties need to be further nurtured and streghthened.
