Candidate for Whau Local Board
Voice of the People
We're standing for the Whau Local Board as independents under "Voice of the People" with no political affiliations. We bring an independent oversight and perspective to Board decisions. We are committed Christians treating everyone equally with compassion, empathy, and are called to have 'no fear'. Working and standing together is Gods gift to us. We bring many terms of previous service both here and in Canterbury. We have an insight and understanding of local body workings. While listening and presenting at board, council and 10 year plan meetings, my voice is not heard about how any where my rates are being spent, on events, infrastructure without accountability, and being told there is no money for the Whau ward. Representatives language to the Mayor, and other Councillors is disrespectful. Ratepayers seem to feel intimidated about speaking publicly, I have to question where it is going and are our representatives standing up?
To bring a Independent Voice of the People to Board decision making and accountability while the current board tells a public meeting that there is no money for the ward while paying up to $1250 per hour for R18 drag queens to read LGBTQI+ story books to children. The board approves spending on speed humps and tables while the roads are falling apart, and our footpaths are just dangerous for older residents. Whau is a combination of Auckland Central, and Waitakere ratepayers for equal funding.
I am a committee member on Parentaid and a Hospice Homecare volunteer, so i have great inter personal and process skills. I started Keep Avondale Ward Beautiful anti-graffiti program, the first of its kind working with police for better outcomes for offenders and our community. My Husband and I set up Tunnel or Nothing group to ensure we got the Waterview Tunnel rather than the government preferred at gr level option dividing suburbs. To bring a level of decorum and respect back.
1. Accountability. To see where our rates money is spent and what outcomes we as community get for those funds. 2. Political neutrality. Currently Local Boards are dominated by Party politics and the party policies and views are represented more than hearing the Voice of the People. We as ratepayers are unheard and treated as cash cows. Point in example the now closed Avondale Community Centre that has deteriorated from lack of maintenance. 3. Lack of infrastructure to match population growth.
Too much has been spent on under utilized cycleways when other transport infrastructure has been neglected. Culverts and drains need to be regularly cleaned to prevent localized flooding especially in autumn when trees drop leaves which block drains.
It should be retained in Auckland Council ownership and management on behalf of the Auckland ratepayers and not privatised or politicised. Watercare should be absorbed back into Auckland Council. An honest and open public discussion on issues like fluoridization of our drinking water. Drug usage is at an all time high and the residue is now found at disturbing levels in our waste water being drained into our harbours and affecting fish stock fertility. These are direct consequences of population
Auckland Council and Central Government are continuously pushing immigration and more housing requirements and the infrastructure maintenance, replacement and new build is not keeping up. Ratepayers should not pay for new infrastructure for new developments. This should be from developers and commercial property owners as per Australian rules.

Everyone should be treated equally regardless of ancestry. We are all Aucklanders and ratepayers and we should expect equal treatment for any and all aucklanders. He iwi tahi tatou. (We are one people)
