What is happening
A judge has ordered a new election for the Papatoetoe Subdivision of Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board.
This is because the judge found there were irregularities that affected the result of the election. This means the election will be run again.
When nominations open
Nominations for candidates will open on Wednesday 31 December 2025 and close at 12 noon on Wednesday 28 January 2026.
When voting papers will be sent out
Voting papers will be sent to enrolled voters in the Papatoetoe Subdivision from Monday 9 March 2026. Voting will be open for one month.

What happens in the meantime
The three Ōtara Subdivision members will stay on the local board, but the board will not have enough members to make decisions until the new election is held.
In the meantime, staff will make decisions using the powers they already have.
Any decisions the board has made so far remain valid.

We will publish a public notice with details about the Papatoetoe Subdivision election on this website on Wednesday 31 December 2025.
