Nominations for the 2026 Wairoa Subdivision by-election

When nominations open and close 

Nominations for candidates in the 2026 Wairoa Subdivision local election are open. 

Nominations close at 12 noon, Tuesday 31 March 2026.

How to nominate a candidate 

• You need to be a NZ citizen, at least 18 years old, and on the parliamentary electoral roll.
• You need two people to nominate you. They must be over 18 and on the Parliamentary Electoral Roll for the area you want to represent.
• You do not need to live in the area you want to represent, but you will need to declare this in your candidate statement.

Pay a nomination deposit 

When filling in your nomination form you will need to pay a nomination deposit of $200 including GST.

If you submit an online nomination, you must provide proof of the payment as part of your submission.
