My principal place of residence is not in the Franklin Local Board (Wairoa Subdivision) area.
I am excited about the opportunity to represent the Wairoa part of the Franklin Local Board district. A Franklin resident for 40 years, I have closely monitored district development, in particular the Drury area that will see enormous growth over the coming years. I am active in the area with personal and business interests. Further afield in Wairoa subdivision I am actively involved in boating off the Beachlands-Maraetai coast and have seen the enormous residential development to the east of the Wairoa district. I understand the population growth pressures that the land close to Auckland is under and also the needs of the existing populations as the landscape of our area is transformed. I have kept our local community aware of developments and believe a role on the local board would allow me to broaden this work to ensure the community has a voice in the changes that are underway.
I am keen to become a local board member as I am particularly interested in the well being of communities and in particular the issues they face as populations grow. The majority of communities in the Franklin District are under growth pressures, and the delivery of services and amenities, and social networks must be effectively planned and promoted. This is particularly the case in Drury and I am keen to add a local voice as this area develops.
I have spent much of my working life delivering Information Technology solutions to a number of large New Zealand corporates. This has required a good technical, analytical and planning skills, and an ability to quickly adapt to changing environments and challenges. I'm a good patient listener and can evaluate alternatives and concerns and can work effectively to forming a concensus.
Services. The area has traditionally been rural in nature and still is. The community hubs need to be well resourced to be able to support their growing populations.
Roading. The large influx of population is going to have an enormous impact on roading and affect how people move around the area in terms of congestion and safety.
Lack of employment. As Franklin's population has grown there has been little associated growth in employment.
