Candidate for Albert-Eden Local Board (Maungawhau Subdivision)
City Vision
Kia ora koutou I'm Jonty Carroll I'm a proud disability activist and customer service assistant standing with City Vision. I have lived in Mount Eden almost my entire life and love it here. My favourite thing about the area is the beautiful environment and local parks. One of the reasons I'm standing is to ensure all our green spaces are protected. My fundamental belief regarding land rights is that they must be made with the understanding that it is of historical and cultural significance to Māori. I identify as neurodivergent and as a disability rights activist. I will make sure our schools, shops, and parks are accessible for all. Accessibility is not just about physical access. Accessibility also means quiet places at noisy events, making public bathrooms more available and being understanding towards all people. Thank you I hope you will support me and my team
I’ve lived in Mount Eden almost my entire life, and I love it here. I went to school at the Great Balmoral School and have a BA honours in politics and international relations at the University of Auckland. Many of my childhood memories involve visiting the Mount Eden shops every Wednesday. I truly believe Albert-Eden is one of the most beautiful parts of the city — from our maunga to our local parks. I would like to be elected to make sure what I love about the area is protected
I have a BA (Hons) in Politics and International Relations and believe listening is key to being a good representative. I work in customer service at the zoo, where I’ve developed strong communication and problem-solving skills. As Co-Convenor of my local Green Party branch and Disability Network, I’ve gained leadership experience and an understanding of how to influence policy and make change happen
Environment A healthy environment is key to a strong community. Green spaces are for connection, play, and learning — they help people thrive. Disability As a neurodivergent disability advocate, I’ll work to make Albert-Eden accessible to all. That means inclusive design, quiet spaces, and real community input. Community I’ll build partnerships with local groups and businesses to create spaces where everyone feels welcome and valued.
I want a safe, low-carbon, accessible transport system with real travel choices. I’d expand rapid transit, cycleways, and walkable streets, and prioritise public transport, including light rail. Our footpaths must be upgraded for accessibility. Disabled people are too often left behind in transport planning, so I’ll work with the Council’s Disability Advisory Panel to introduce binding accessibility standards for all public transport and walkways
I believe water must remain a fully public, not-for-profit service that is sustainable, affordable, and meets high environmental standards. I oppose using water restrictions to enforce debt. Any changes to water service structures must follow these principles, be locally accountable, and align with Council planning. I’ll advocate for strong public control and community input in all water decisions
I support sustainable, well-designed local development that prioritises density done well. New buildings must be affordable, clean, and have convenient access to public transport. I support more public and pensioner housing, along with stronger action on homelessness. I also believe new housing must meet universal design standards. As space for private gardens becomes limited, I support investing in green spaces and community gardens close to or within new developments
I support Auckland’s zero-net emissions target but believe 2040 is too long to wait and that faster action with strong local leadership is needed. I will ensure accurate emissions reporting and back green infrastructure like rain gardens, green roofs, and solar energy. I want to work with neighbourhoods to create Greens community groups. After the anniversary floods, I’m concerned about our water system and will invest in pipe rebuilding and natural blue-green solutions
I'm committed to promoting the economic, social, cultural, and environmental wellbeing of our community. That means investing in libraries, arts centres, and sports grounds we can all be proud of. In a diverse area like Albert-Eden, I’ll continue to support inclusive events like the Chinese Moon Festival. As someone who is noise-sensitive, I understand accessibility isn’t always visible, and I’ll advocate for spaces that support all communities
I support strong, self-reliant communities with full employment and am committed to ending inequality. Economic justice starts locally. I’ll back local businesses and workers, working with owners to expand opportunities for Disabled people and other underemployed groups, benefiting both employers and employees. I will also ensure new buildings and housing projects are designed to support and strengthen local businesses
I’m committed to including Māori perspectives in all Local Board decisions. I’ll build strong partnerships, promote Te Reo Māori in public spaces, and honor local customs. I want to reintroduce names like Maungawhau / Mount Eden to deepen understanding. I support Māori representation, participation, and economic development, and will ensure decisions respect the land’s significance to Māori. I also back Māori wards and will do my best to uphold the UN Declaration on Indigenous Rights
