I’m a proud 26-year local resident, parent, and candidate running to bring practical and rational leadership back to Council. With a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Physics, I’ve worked as a software developer, small business owner, and real estate agent. I understand the real-world pressures facing families, homeowners, and small businesses. My Action Plan is grounded in common sense: End Wasteful Spending; Eliminate vanity projects; Require cost-benefit analysis before spending public money; Lower Rates – Focus on Core Services; Deliver better services with smarter spending and tighter budgets; Improve Traffic – Remove AT’s unrealistic 'Vision Zero' policy; End excessive traffic-calming; Focus on maintenance, safety, and traffic flow; Scrap Pointless Emissions Targets – Focus on Climate Adaptation; Ditch costly ideology-driven targets; Invest in stormwater management, and resilience. Vote Paul Sun – Rational Approach, Independent Voice, Local Focus.
I want to be elected because I believe Auckland Council has lost touch with ratepayers. After 26 years living in this community, I’ve seen wasteful projects, rising costs, and policies that slow our city down. With my background in science, business, and real estate, I bring both analytical skills and practical experience. My priorities are ending wasteful spending, keeping rates affordable, improv traffic, focusing on climate adaptation over costly emissions targets.
I hold two Bachelor of Science degrees — in Computer Science and Physics — which have equipped me with strong scientific reasoning and analytical skills. I take a strategic approach to problem-solving, breaking complex challenges into smaller, more manageable parts to achieve practical solutions. I value independent thinking and have the courage to speak the truth, even when it’s unpopular.
I’ll prioritize fixing stormwater and drainage to protect Mt Eden, Epsom, and Greenlane from future floods; ending wasteful projects so funds go to essentials like the Epsom Library upgrade; and preserving our heritage streets while allowing smart growth near transport hubs. I want council decisions driven by real community needs, not political agendas, ensuring Albert-Eden remains a safe, vibrant, and well-serviced place to live.
My priority is to fix existing roads and ease congestion, especially at choke points like Manukau Rd, Mt Eden Rd, Greenlane, and Dominion Rd. I’ll push for evidence-based upgrades, not wasteful experiments like AT’s “Vision Zero” or unnecessary traffic-calming. Public transport must be reliable and cost-effective before expansion. Cycling and walking projects should serve real demand, while ensuring every transport dollar delivers value for residents.
Auckland must focus on practical water management. For stormwater, we need urgent upgrades in Mt Eden, Epsom, and Sandringham where floods caused severe damage. Instead of spending on costly emissions targets, funds should go to drainage, flood protection, and resilience. For supply and wastewater, efficiency and accountability are key — stop wasteful spending, ensure water quality, and keep services affordable for households and businesses.
Urban development must be practical, not chaotic. I support controlled intensification around transport hubs while protecting the unique character of suburbs like Mt Eden, Epsom, Greenlane and Sandringham. Infrastructure must keep pace — stormwater, roads, and community facilities must be upgraded before growth. I’ll oppose vanity projects and push for cost-effective planning.
I believe we should protect and enhance natural spaces like Maungawhau/Mt Eden and our local parks while ensuring they remain accessible for all. Climate resilience requires practical investment — flood protection, stormwater upgrades, and slip prevention — not costly symbolic targets. Biodiversity can be strengthened through community-led planting, pest control, and maintaining green corridors. Let’s focus on real, achievable actions that protect nature and keep our communities safe.
I’ll strengthen our communities by investing in local facilities like the Epsom Library upgrade and well-maintained parks. I’ll push for better sports grounds and community centres to support families, youth, and seniors. I’ll advocate for transparent council decisions and ensure residents have a stronger voice in planning and development. Supporting local events, cultural activities, and small businesses will build pride, connection, and wellbeing across our areas.
I want to see a thriving local economy where small businesses can grow without being strangled by red tape. I’ll advocate for reducing compliance costs, speeding up permits, and creating more parking near business centres. I’ll back local markets, events, and tourism that showcase our area’s cultural heritage. By combining smart regulation with community pride, we can boost economic growth, support entrepreneurs, and protect what makes Albert-Eden unique.
Māori are an integral part of Auckland’s identity, and I support outcomes that strengthen our shared future through housing, education, and cultural projects. The Port of Auckland must deliver strong returns for all residents. I back growing the Auckland Future Fund as an independent investment trust to reduce reliance on rates, fund core services, and safeguard wealth for future generations.
