I have served as an Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa councillor since 2022, after twelve years on the Puketāpapa Local Board. I seek your support to continue representing our area for another three years as your Councillor. At its heart a city is about sharing; how we live together and pool our resources to make life better. My extensive local experience helps make our city and region better for everyone. I believe in strong local democracy and giving a voice to locals across the whole term. I’ve regularly reported on my work, been accessible to constituents, and held in-person clinics. I secured community information sessions for many neighbourhoods hit by storms in 2023 and in 2025, and assisted hundreds of households with local issues around footpaths, flooding, transport and more. I advocate for climate action, improved transport choices and affordable housing. Please vote for me, Jon Turner and the whole City Vision team.
Since being elected as your Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa Councillor in 2022, I’ve championed climate action and been able to deliver real results across transport, the environment, housing and community resilience, working together with councillor colleagues and Local Boards across the region. Aucklanders achieve more together than we can on our own. I’m seeking a second term to continue making positive changes and working with the community to build a future-focused city.
Serving on the Puketāpapa Local Board 2010-2022 and Council's Governing Body since then, I have established a reputation as a consensus builder who asks questions to understand issues and works hard to effectively communicate with the public. I have led the process to give local boards more funding and greater decision-making powers, helped flood-affected residents, been available through in-person clinics and social media, and worked hard to prevent cuts to valued community services.
1. Housing. Everyone deserves a warm, dry home. We need to grow housing opportunities near jobs, education and transport. 2. Transport. Let’s maximise City Rail Link benefits and provide safer connections by investing in public transport, walking and cycling. 3. Climate resilience through stormwater improvements. Especially for Te Auaunga Oakley Creek, Waitītīko Meola Creek and the Upper Whau. I've championed successful blue-green network projects in Mt Roskill and we need many more.
I support more investment in public transport, walking and cycling, and an increased focus on improving safety for all road users. Everyone is a pedestrian sometimes, and we need to ensure our footpaths are safe for all. Transport has a big role to play in reducing our carbon emissions, and helping Aucklanders to change modes is key. Creating a more reliable and frequent public transport system, connecting housing, jobs, education and services, is essential.
We face real challenges with water as our climate changes and our city grows. We need to reduce wastewater overflows which pollute our rivers and harbours, and increase conservation efforts to reduce our reliance on the Waikato River for drinking water. For stormwater, I’ve been involved in several successful projects to reduce flooding through daylighting streams, and I support more investment in these blue-green projects, working with local communities to make the most of flood prone land.
While we still have people living in cars and garages, on the streets, and in overcrowded homes, we still have a housing crisis. We need more housing provided near frequent transport routes, town centres and jobs, where we already have much of the essential infrastructure. I support stopping expensive sprawl that is eating up our productive land. We should protect our best heritage buildings and streets, and support social housing across our region, including increasing council’s provision.
I support continuing the Natural Environment Targeted Rate and investing in increasing Auckland's biodiversity. We have big opportunities to plant out flood impacted land bought through the Storm Recovery scheme, and create more natural spaces within our suburbs. More trees and wetlands will help cope with rising temperatures, flooding and erosion, and provide more safe habitat for our native flora. I also support more tree protection work, and respecting mana whenua as kaitiaki.
I have led the work this term on delivering more funding and decision-making powers for local boards to enable their locally focused community work. Governing Body’s role is to support regional programmes that make connections in complex areas like homelessness, libraries and food security, while ensuring significant funding opportunities are available for partners like the Citizens Advice Bureau. Openly supporting our city's many diverse communities is also vital to community wellbeing.
Research shows that Auckland lags behind similar cities in innovation and prosperity. Council has been doing some good work in creating connections for the tech sector that can boost new ideas and investment, and I support this continuing, along with more funding for broader economic development and tourism promotion through a bed night levy. It's important that council continues to be a major funder for our key cultural institutions like the Museum, to hold and recreate our city's identity.
A well-managed city is democratic and transparent. I have the highest attendance record of all sitting councillors, and prioritise my representative role, ensuring a consistent effective voice at the table for my community. I will continue to support storm recovery work, which has been a focus for me this term. I support retaining council ownership of the Port, continuing to invest in Māori outcomes, and protecting the Auckland Future Fund so we can use future dividends to offset rate increases.
