A Fresh Approach
Current Deputy Chair of the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board, CEO of ‘I Love Takapuna’ Takapuna Business Association, Eventfinda Stadium Trustee, Institute of Directors member and active North Shore resident for over 30 years. I bring expert governance and business skills, careful financial management and an evidence driven approach to decisions. I have a ‘get it done’ attitude with a collaborative approach to solving issues. Having worked within Council and the private sector, I know how to get results. Passionate about our area, I have been instrumental in delivering for our community this term, saving local funding from budget cuts, refurbishing council facilities, leading staff for more careful spending, cleaning up our environment and beaches, empowering our local economy, hosting award winning events and ensuring we live in a place people feel proud of and thrive in. I would love to be re-elected to continue to move our area forward in a positive way, making decisions that are based on evidence and best practice. A healthy environment: Protecting and enhancing our natural environment, parks, ocean and waterways. Community wellbeing: Supporting events, sports and the arts, celebrating diversity, removing barriers to participation and increasing opportunities to learn and connect. Financial responsibility: Sensible spending of public money and good governance.
Reduce congestion by freeing up key arterial routes, putting in yellow lines on unsafe corners/streets with increased parked cars due to infill housing, improving bus services, pushing for funding to do a major upgrade of lake road, improving parking in town centres, sensible walking and cycling improvements which do not hinder vehicle movements, pushing for extra vehicle lanes on esmonde road to get on the motorway south, building a new cycling/walking bridge from francis st to esmonde rd.
Major investment in stormwater management to prevent flooding, improve maintenance on pipes to prevent leaks. install more filters to stop contaminates reaching our waterways and ocean. investment in pump stations to stop emergency overflows.
Better planning around in-fill housing to reduce issues with those extra houses adding to flooding risks, cars parked on narrow streets and shading to neighbours. More compliance officers to ensure developers are doing the right things and not breaking the rules. Protecting heritage buildings in a sensible way, investing more in infrastructure to get our city moving and working better
More investment in our local environment enhancement and protection. Fund local environmental groups and encourage volunteers/community to help, install more filters on stormwater outlets to protect contaminates going into the sea and waterways, plant the right tree in the right place, lobby for greater protection of the hauraki gulf and stop commercial dredging and netting within the gulf. Bigger fines for developers who pollute our environment.
Continue to invest in services which improve our communities wellbeing, especially for those who are struggling/marginalized. Fund events and fun activities which bring communities together for shared experiences. Enhance and upgrade our libraries, pool and community centres.
Greater focus on investment in our town centres, improved parking and transport, improved cleaning and maintenance in town centres, more events in or close to town centres, Greater investment in activities which support and enhance difference cultures, sharing knowledge and understanding. Celebrating and sharing our cultural history through events, storyboards and the built environment.
Enhancement of Te ao Maori world view as this benefits all people. Look for synergies in decisions which benefit all people including Maori. Celebrate Maori history and local knowledge Keep control of the port which returns a strong income to council as well as controls the land it uses for future use by the city. Continue to invest in the Auckland Future Fund, looking for high return for our city. Invest in storm recovery on a cost benefit for the amount of people it helps
