I was born and raised in Waiuku and am now raising my own family here. This is home, and I care deeply about the future of Waiuku and West Franklin. I want to ensure our community is properly represented, with decisions that reflect what residents actually want, not what others think is best for them. Good representation starts with listening. If elected, I will create genuine opportunities for the community to have its say and will advocate strongly for those views. My focus is on delivering practical solutions that improve daily life for locals, including: improving road safety and maintenance, protecting our environment and water quality, supporting local businesses, strengthening community groups and facilities, and improving connectivity and resilience. As an independent candidate who is From Waiuku, For Waiuku - my only commitment is to the people who live here - working to achieve outcomes that matter to our community.
I’m running to ensure Waiuku, Glenbrook, Awhitu, and surrounding areas have a strong, determined voice that delivers real results. I’m From Waiuku, For Waiuku, and I know our challenges first-hand from unsafe roads to missing facilities. I want to make sure local priorities are heard, acted on, and delivered with transparency, urgency, and accountability, so our community gets the services, facilities, and infrastructure we deserve now and for future generations.
I bring years of proven leadership in emergency response, arts, heritage, community events, and local advocacy. My deep, generational roots in Waiuku, continuing a long tradition of community service, give me a unique understanding of its needs. I connect with all parts of our community, ask the hard questions, and focus on turning priorities into tangible results that improve residents’ lives.
Direct from our community: urgent road safety upgrades and better maintenance to reduce accidents and repair costs; protecting and upgrading Franklin Memorial Hospital, including exploring urgent care services to bring healthcare closer to home; and advocating for an indoor aquatic centre to serve Waiuku and surrounding areas, giving our growing community year-round access to swimming, recreation, and water safety facilities. These will be my top advocacy priorities if elected.
Prioritise urgent road safety upgrades and ongoing maintenance, especially on rural and high-risk routes, to prevent accidents and reduce vehicle repair costs. Advocate for improved bus links, explore a passenger ferry service from Waiuku/Awhitu/Glenbrook Beach to Onehunga, and investigate on-demand shuttles connecting smaller communities to public transport hubs. Complete the Waiuku Trails project and deliver more rural footpaths for safer walking.
Protect and improve water quality in our harbours, rivers and streams through targeted stormwater upgrades, better erosion control, and strong pollution prevention. Ensure reliable drinking water infrastructure across all communities, urban and rural. Support investment in coastal resilience, including a new seawall at Glenbrook Beach, to safeguard water quality and homes from storm damage. Advocate for ongoing, transparent community consultation on major water infrastructure decisions.
Support balanced growth that protects the character and heritage of our communities while meeting housing needs. Advocate for infrastructure investment, roads, footpaths, drainage, to keep pace with development. Push for affordable, good-quality housing through better planning and zoning decisions. Champion heritage protection for sites of local significance. Ensure all new developments contribute positively to community amenities, green spaces, and long-term liveability.
Strengthen biodiversity protection with community-led pest control, habitat restoration, and support for initiatives such as the local native bat monitoring programme. Tackle coastal erosion through targeted resilience projects like the Glenbrook Beach seawall. Promote planting programmes to enhance green spaces and protect waterways. Ensure our communities are properly prepared for severe weather events.
Deliver better parks, playgrounds, halls, and sports facilities, including an indoor aquatic centre for year-round recreation and water safety. Upgrade and complete projects like the Waiuku Trails network. Protect and improve Franklin Memorial Hospital, exploring urgent care options to meet local needs. Ensure volunteer groups are supported and have access to rubbish collection support. Promote events that celebrate our local culture, connect people, and strengthen community pride.
Support local businesses through better infrastructure, local events, and initiatives that increase foot traffic in town centres. Promote tourism potential in Waiuku, Awhitu, Glenbrook, and coastal areas, highlighting our heritage sites, museums, and natural attractions. Strengthen arts and culture through accessible facilities, events, and support for creative projects. Champion local procurement for council projects to keep spending in our community and create local jobs.
Work in partnership with mana whenua and Maaori organisations to support initiatives that deliver cultural, environmental, and economic benefits. Ensure the local board operates transparently, consults widely, and delivers measurable results. Advocate for community-driven priorities in regional projects like storm recovery and resilience planning. Ensure financial decisions are responsible and focused on long-term value for ratepayers, protecting local assets for future generations.
