Candidate statement
I'm Professor Glover. Highly educated, experienced in government policy analysis, public health, and behavioural science. I have over 120 published scientific papers. For my contribution to society, I was recognized as a finalist for the 2019 New Zealander of the Year Supreme Award. Integrity is my touchstone. I believe in honest, principled leadership and standing up for what’s right, even when it’s not popular. Elected representatives should listen to you, weigh different views, and work hard to improve life for everyone. I’ve supported our community through governance roles, with Torbay Business Association, including editing the Torbay Magazine, and as a local business owner. I’ve lived locally for many years, went to school here, raised my family here. I'll be a strong, independent advocate for fairness, meaningful investment in our local people and places, and I’ll always put our community’s needs ahead of political games. Independent. Experienced. Committed to our community.

Hibiscus and Bays Local Board (East Coast Bays Subdivision)
Backing the Bays
Candidate statement
If you want experienced, effective leadership that delivers results, vote Julia Parfitt. A lifelong Bays resident, JP, former Deputy Mayor and Local Board Chairperson. I know our area extremely well and have a track record of working constructively across Council to get the best outcomes for residents. Successfully promoted: infrastructure rebuild and stream improvements post storm events; more programmed stormwater maintenance, restoration and pest-free initiatives; town centre safety plans; pump station upgrades; funding playground renewals and new walkways like Bushglen; a youth park in Long Bay and a dog park planned for Browns Bay. Our 'Backing the Bays' team can continue to build and support strong, safe and connected communities with vibrant town centres; extend our restoration and environmental programmes; keep transport projects like Glenvar Road on-track; and advocate for better public transport links and a new harbour crossing. As a team, we can continue to make a real difference.
Hibiscus and Bays Local Board (East Coast Bays Subdivision)
Backing the Bays
Candidate statement
As a lifelong Bays resident living in Okura with my husband and two daughters, it's been an honour to serve as Chair of your local board. I've worked hard to deliver results - saving North Harbour Stadium, securing funding for Glenvar Rd, planning a dog park and disability beach access mat, enhancing town centre safety, and ensuring stronger compliance on building sites. I'm proud of these achievements, but there's more to do. Looking ahead, I'm excited to partner with Auckland Prison to supply cost-effective native plants and park furniture; deliver a youth centre; work with DoC to reopen Okura bush walk; and develop plans to ensure the stadium's long-term success. I bring a professional background in policy analysis and communications, with experience in preparing multi-million-dollar budgets. I use evidence-based decision-making to ensure your rates fund projects that deliver results. For effective, community-driven leadership, vote for the Backing the Bays team.
Hibiscus and Bays Local Board (East Coast Bays Subdivision)
Backing the Bays
Candidate statement
I have served on the local board for three years, and it’s been an honour to represent the Bays. I’m proud of my successes to date: delivering community safety and emergency preparedness; the Board lead for establishing three local emergency response groups and hubs; and enhancing town safety. I’m also Chair of North Shore Neighbourhood Support, working hard to reduce crime and create safe and strong communities in our area. We affiliate with a Safety Network established by the Police. Members include Community Patrol, Māori and Pacifica Wardens, AT Safety and Blue Light. My wife and I have lived in Browns Bay since 2011 and started a gym in 2012. You may remember me during lockdown working security at New World Browns Bay to spread the joy during a difficult time. I’m a passionate advocate and deliverer of safe, vibrant and connected neighbourhoods. Vote ‘Backing the Bays’ for strong representation
