With 12 years on the Kaipātiki Local Board, I'm committed to our community. I build relationships and fix problems for our organisations, businesses and clubs. I want a safe and welcoming community for all. We must continue to control rates, fix infrastructure, manage Auckland Transport and remain committed to our environment. My priorities are to speed up infrastructure investment to secure well-managed flood protection, to see smart investment in sport, including golf, and co-investment with schools for community use, and to grow our town centres and deliver better local employment options. The North Shore is my home, with my husband and our two teenagers. I'm on the board of North Harbour Rugby, Harbour Gym and Westlake Boys, an Institute of Directors member and a JP. My significant business experience and transparent and accountable governance will ensure I make better decisions with your money. Please support the Shore Action Team; #8TicksShoreAction
After 12 years on the Kaipātiki Local Board, I am committed to the North Shore and will continue to stand up for our community, while focusing on the big issues facing our city. Connecting my community is what I do best, solving problems and supporting organisations to achieve their purpose. My intention as your Councillor for the North Shore is to collaborate with the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and all our Councillors to deliver the priorities with the urgency our community deserves.
I bring strong business acumen from a successful career in advertising, as well as highly competent governance skills having served on numerous boards including North Harbour Rugby and Westlake Boys. During my time on the Local Board I have built relationships, advocated for our community, invested in new assets and supported our sports clubs, community partners and businesses. I make decisions by listening to you. Every decision I make starts with “How does this help the people I serve?”
Live, Work and Play Infrastructure – speed up investment on the North Shore to secure safe drinking water, and well-managed waste and flood management, while caring for the environment. Sport and recreation – smarter investment focused on youth wellbeing, improved facilities and co-investment with schools for community use. Economic development – grow our town centres, increase local employment and attract investment into the North Shore.
We need to continue to develop a strong relationship with central government to ensure funding for major transport projects. We can’t get Auckland moving without their help. We require greater transparency from Auckland Transport, and ensure the council has the final say over transport strategy and spending. I would like to see ferries included in the $50 public transport weekly cap, and also want to see better connectivity between North Shores buses and the inner city transport network.
We need to speed up investment in water infrastructure (drinking, waste and stormwater) to keep pace with community expectations and a growing Shore. We need to secure well-managed flood protection to ensure we don’t see a repeat of the devastating 2023 floods that hit Milford, Sunnynook and Totara Vale residents. We must deliver stage 1 of flood protection at AF Thomas Park, alongside golf, and confirm funding for stages 2 and 3 to ensure the safety of everyone in the wider Wairau catchment.
We need to be more targeted in our growth to ensure infrastructure is in step with future development. Waiting until 2034 for more pipes is too late, and is holding back the development of more affordable housing around our transport hubs and town centres. I support the protection of heritage homes. And we can’t forget those in our community without a home. We need to work alongside organisations like the Salvation Army to advocate for a roof over the heads of the most vulnerable.
I am a proud steward of this beautiful place we call home, and have spent many years building our environmental resilience. Speeding up our water infrastructure will help protect our much-loved beaches, and I will ensure we keep investing in our beautiful bush tracks. We must also support our hard-working volunteers such as Pest Free Kaipātiki, which I helped establish and take immense pride in their work. The Kaipātiki Project's award-winning environmental hub is another volunteer success story
My superpower is that I connect people. Governance isn't just about meetings and budgets - it's about making real life better for real people. Because I interact with so many people and organisations, I understand the pulse of the community, can identify needs and find tangible solutions. More and more families from all over the world are making the North Shore their home. I enjoy working with our diverse community, actively participating alongside many organisations to help them succeed.
We all know a business that’s struggling or someone who is out of work in these tough times. I want to see Auckland Council having a greater focus on economic development initiatives to grow our town centres and attract investment into the North Shore. I want to see our town centres thriving again with greater vibrancy and more profitability, along with better local employment options.
With rate rises a real concern, I want to ensure every ratepayer dollar delivers genuine value for our community. I support Mayor Brown’s focus on cutting wasteful spending, and sound financial investment. I continue to work with Mana Whenua and Matawaka for guidance on local projects, listening to their input and how it improves outcomes for all.
