Candidate for Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Ward
Independent
I am answering the call from my community to stand for three positions in this year's election, because of the wide dissatisfaction of our current elected representative. Maungakiekie-Tāmaki has been my family's home for five generations, and I carry on the tradition of community service. I am currently the president of Grey Power of Howick Pakuranga & District - president of Panmure Historical - chair Panmure Basin Advisory Committee and volunteered for the Mt Wellington Community patrol New Zealand. With my work experience of Civil & Roading construction, and history working for and contracting to Council, I have the real world skill & knowledge to serve as councillor for our ward for the next three years! Please vote for Patrick O'Meara three times - it's a vote you can trust!
When elected I intend to focus on Councils Core Services, such as cleaning drains and cesspits and our polluted waterways. Get Councils spending under control and projects are delivered on time and on budget. Stop all vanity projects, this is to stop Rate Increases and reduction of services for household rubbish collections( weekly not fortnightly as proposed.)Council needs to stop borrowing money we can't afford. Counil needs to live in its budget.
I have worked for Local Council and Auckland City Council and have contracted to Auckland Council, as well as first hand experience . I am Community focused and been involved with multiple groups and clubs. I am currently President of Grey Power, and Panmure Historical Society, Chairman for Panmure Advisory Committee and a Local Community Patrols for CPNZ. I have strong Leadership Skills and a Community Stakeholder.
My first Key Issue is cleaning up the drains cesspits ,and waterways, which are heavily polluted.( Making Healthy Waters Accountable)- Re-instating Water Quality Report Cards, to be shown in every Local Board Office and publicly available. Then face to face community consultation. Public Meetings, and no secret or hidden Agenda 2030. Finally stopping Eke Paunku (Panmure unlocked) stopping the sale of Kings Road Carpark.
Maintain existing Roading and infrastructure and engage with the Community what they want first, no 15 minute cities or United Nations Agenda 2030.
Water Care is a great start, but our infrastructure has been neglected for decades-example, the Tamaki Redevelopment Area needs $800,0000 dollars in new infrastructure alone ! Decades of neglect have polluted our Creeks, waterways, Rivers and our Waitemata Harbour. The Council needs to be responsible for it's own pollution, example discharging sewage and waste water after rain.
My thoughts on Auckland's urban development and infrastructure are not compatible , our infrastructure is failing now and needs renewal first before development. Heritage Protection is necessary for the character of the city and Historic sites and view shafts to the Maunga's.
I shall support the Community Volunteers with trapping, monitoring pests, plantings and Community Clean-ups, which should be a priority, and funded by Council and Water Care.
Maintaining Community assets, and facilities and help with local services will build a strong community connection ,with ongoing engagement listening to the Communities changing needs.
My vision is to support local and listen to the people, and promote our cultural heritage which is under funded.
My support will be there Case by case as required. Ports of Auckland eventually needs to move to Whangarei with the support of the Government to build the rail to support it.
