    Candidate statement

My work history is, I came to Auckland in 1974 and joined the NZ Navy, for 12 years, on my discharge from the navy, I worked in a couple of sales positions, then went on to become self employed as an electrician in my own electrical contracting company. We moved to our current address, when DFH, was still state highway 1, so I feel I have a good understanding of the area. Reason I am standing, I would like to give back to the community, also find out why, our rates keep going up year on year, with no change to what we receive from council, also our rates seem to be a wealth tax, with nothing to do with the services provided. Rates should be standard across all properties.

I emigrated to NZ in 1996, settling in the Bays. We moved to Dairy Flat in 2014. I'm passionate about Dairy Flat and have immersed myself in the local community. Currently, chair both Redvale Waste Management CLC and Blackbridge Environmental Protection Society and serve on DF Hall committee. I've petitioned Council for safer waterways, roading and infrastructure. Involved with Pest Free DF and Friends of Green Park, doing volunteer tree planting, weed and pest eradication. Have taught chess at DF, Waitoki and Home Schools. Founder member of DF Toastmasters. Have served as BoT member of DF Primary and Glenfield College. Chaired Owners' Committee of 40 story high rise in Auckland. I pride myself on listening to what people need and finding win-win solutions to problems. I'll work unstintingly for the issues that affect our area. If you ask family, friends and neighbours to vote, that will be really appreciated.
