Rodney Local Board (Warkworth Subdivision)
Independent
Candidate statement
Being nominated for a third electoral term on the Rodney Local Board I will strive for greater financial accountability and transparency for Rodney ratepayers. As an independent board member my drive is community, to get Warkworth's fair regional rates share spent locally. Rodney's existence must have a strong voice to provide effective and financially feasible outcomes. I am a family-oriented person having spent the past (30) years deeply engaged in many community interests within the greater Warkworth area. With a degree in finance, agribusiness management and valuation I feel equipped with the skills to conduct business decisions successfully, fairly, and diplomatically for our community. My voluntary involvement on a myriad of local community committees and boards provides a broad knowledge of our cultural, sporting, and recreational needs, together with a solid foundation to base the core community values of fairness, diversity and sharing.

Candidate statement
Holding to compassionate conservativism, I seek to protect and promote traditional values, our endowed resources, and the financial health of Rodney for many generations. Wise tradeoffs are required, but we also need to consider novel win-win approaches harnessing diverse views. I value integrity, and am particularly concerned with reducing loneliness in our communities. My wife and I live in Warkworth and have six adult children and three grandchildren. I currently serve as part-time professor of operations and supply chain management at the University of Auckland, management consultant, trustee for a non-profit organisation, and am a member of the Institute of Directors New Zealand. I served two years as a volunteer recruit firefighter. I trust my experience working/consulting in healthcare, retail, manufacturing, and insurance, and as an educator in the leading public university in each of New Zealand, China, and the US, will enable me to contribute to enhancing Rodney’s welfare.

Candidate statement
I am Taabeta Tebau also known as Taabeta Teakai, a proud resident, experienced leader, and passionate advocate for strong connected communities. With a background as a former Member of Parliament and Minister of Employment and Human Resources in Kiribati, I bring a wealth of governance experience, policy insight, and a deep understanding of how to work with people to get results. Now living in Warkworth, I am standing for the Local Board to give back to a community that has welcomed me and my family, and my people with open arms. I believe local government should reflect the people it serves, practical, caring and forward-looking. I would be honoured to serve Warkworth and help shape a strong future for our growing community. I believe in listening to voices, building safer, more inclusive neighbourhoods, and making sure Council services reflect the needs of our people and support families, youths and seniors.

As a local business owner and parent, my priority is our community. For three years, I’ve stood with you, delivering when it matters most. My practical approach cuts red tape, empowering our people, groups, and volunteers to shape our future. I’ve worked collaboratively with local board members, fostering unity to drive impactful decisions. I secured transport rate funds, sealing more roads in Mahurangi than all of Auckland combined - real results for us. I’m passionate about our sports grounds and parks, ensuring they’re maintained and upgraded for families to enjoy. Despite development pressures on our infrastructure, I’ll keep fighting for local action and community-led solutions. Our work isn’t done. I’m a proven voice, delivering for you. I ask for your vote to continue this work, keeping our community vibrant and our green spaces thriving. Together, let’s get it done.
