Candidate for Rodney Local Board (Warkworth Subdivision)
Independent
Being nominated for a third electoral term on the Rodney Local Board I will strive for greater financial accountability and transparency for Rodney ratepayers. As an independent board member my drive is community, to get Warkworth's fair regional rates share spent locally. Rodney's existence must have a strong voice to provide effective and financially feasible outcomes. I am a family-oriented person having spent the past (30) years deeply engaged in many community interests within the greater Warkworth area. With a degree in finance, agribusiness management and valuation I feel equipped with the skills to conduct business decisions successfully, fairly, and diplomatically for our community. My voluntary involvement on a myriad of local community committees and boards provides a broad knowledge of our cultural, sporting, and recreational needs, together with a solid foundation to base the core community values of fairness, diversity and sharing.
To fairly and transparently represent the interests of the Warkworth community and all associated community groups, by demanding accountability from Auckland City Council to have our fair rates share allocated locally.
I have the financial qualifications together with 35 years business management experience throughout the wider Rodney district, to work collaboratively in providing financially feasible outcomes for all Rodney ratepayers. With registered valuer experience and a project management background, I have a "keen eye" for the added value aspects involved.
Managing population growth and employment opportunity in regard to the previously established and more recently modified Auckland City structural plan, particularly the required capital infrastructure involved. The currently unfair proportioning of capital transport funding for Rodney, particularly the rapidly deteriorating of the district's roading network. Basic provisioning of transport, potable water, together with environmentally sensitive management rubbish and wastewater.
Priority to be given to the Auckland City's "Unsealed Road Improvement Program" Extension of AT bus network to permanently include Warkworth and Wellsford, together with related bus routes to maximise opportunity of use by the total Rodney community. Upgrade existing and extend pedestrian network in all community centers
Totally support the current upgrading and expansion of the Warkworth wastewater treatment plant at Snells Beach. Proactively manage Rodney's Waste and Stormwater needs to environmentally provide for the projected population growth to over 20,000 population by 2035.
Auckland's projected urban growth has been poorly planned for in recent yearly. Lack of needed infrastructure and transportation network.
The proposed Dome Valley dump is a potential environmental disaster! Potential water contamination of the nearby Hoteo River and thereby flow on to the Kaipara Harbour must be avoided at all cost!! Heritage Regional Parks and care thereof must remain a top Auckland City funding priority.
As a local board member regularly attend community group meetings, field days etc. to assess facility and funding needs. Provide Auckland City Council support staff as required, to advise communities of council's policy and funding support availability.
Supportive approach to local businesses via Council BID network. Flexible approach with businesses and community groups as regards Council's "fees and charges".
