As the former MP for Te Atatu (1993/2011), current Chairperson of Henderson -Massey Local Board, and a resident of Te Atatu for almost 30 years I recognise the support given to our local community by the Trust. Over many years I have seen the important contribution the Waitakere Licensing Trust has made in supporting local sports clubs, schools and other community groups. No supermarket or private alcohol retail outlet would have done that. The Trust has also ensured a responsible approach to alcohol sales in our community. Under Trust managements west Auckland has not seen the huge proliferation of bottle stores that has occurred in some other non-trust parts of Auckland. If elected I will ensure the Trust continues its responsible approach to alcohol sales in our community and funnels any profits into the community.
