Waitākere Licensing Trust (Ward No. 1 - Te Atatū)
Labour
Candidate statement
As the former MP for Te Atatu (1993/2011), current Chairperson of Henderson -Massey Local Board, and a resident of Te Atatu for almost 30 years I recognise the support given to our local community by the Trust. Over many years I have seen the important contribution the Waitakere Licensing Trust has made in supporting local sports clubs, schools and other community groups. No supermarket or private alcohol retail outlet would have done that. The Trust has also ensured a responsible approach to alcohol sales in our community. Under Trust managements west Auckland has not seen the huge proliferation of bottle stores that has occurred in some other non-trust parts of Auckland. If elected I will ensure the Trust continues its responsible approach to alcohol sales in our community and funnels any profits into the community. Please continue to support the work the Trust does for our community.

Your vote to re-elect Brooke Loader is a vote for a responsible approach to alcohol sales in our community. I have a strong record of supporting convenient bottle shop locations, but not on every corner, and operating the Trusts with a heart for the community and our workers. As a small business owner with governance experience, I bring the skills to help the Trusts thrive for our community. I feel the Trusts have an important role in local employment, with venues that support job growth, career pathways and a living wage for Westies. Many of our sports clubs, schools and community organisations rely on Trusts funding to deliver the amazing work that makes our community a great place to live in and raise families. My focus will be to increase investment to support them. To support local control, local jobs and local community support, give your vote to Brooke Loader.

Trusts Action Group
Candidate statement
My family and I reside in Te Atatu Peninsula. We love living here and have built some strong connections in our community. As a self-employed marketing professional, I'm passionate about supporting small business owners and using my skills to help them grow. It's been a tough few years out there particularly for those involved in hospitality in the West trying to operate within the restrictive rules of the licensing monopoly. That's the one reason why I support a referendum, another is providing an entire generation of Westies (with the last vote held in 2003, who are now almost 40!) the opportunity to have their say. Positive change has come from having myself and other WALTAG members elected to the boards, and we'll continue to build on that momentum by driving greater efficiency and more funding. Please support us for fairer representation and balanced community viewpoints within our licensing trusts boards.

Scientist, father of three, school board member and Warriors tragic since day one #upthewahs. I’m standing for the Trust to deliver positive change. Most people want less gambling and alcohol harm in West Auckland, along with more choice, stronger communities and increased funding. But opinions on how to get there vary. The Trusts Action Group has policies that I’m proud to support, and firmly believe will achieve those outcomes. We’ll immediately remove half the pokies and increase community funding. We’ll also trigger a binding referendum, giving today’s community the chance to leave the monopoly behind. Trust monopolies don’t reduce harm in a market that’s already regulated, but they do limit choice, push business elsewhere, and return less than simple, diversified investments would. I want the Trust to be a community builder, a funder and facilitator valued by all of West Auckland. Vote Trusts Action Group and help make that happen.
Waitākere Licensing Trust (Ward No. 1 - Te Atatū)
Candidate statement
I'm a proud Westie, born and bred in West Auckland and have raised my children and grandchildren in this region. As an experienced leader I am committed to serving the people of Waitakere, bringing a strong background in community engagement, governance, and advocacy. I back our community, I back bold ideas, and I challenge systems that hold us back. I will prioritize transparent decision-making, support initiatives that promote local economic growth, and ensure that licensing practices protect community safety and social harmony. Working for and with our community I aim to create a balanced environment where businesses thrive while safeguarding the values and wellbeing of our residents. I bring a relentless drive to uplift our communities. I’m not here to play politics – I’m here to deliver change. If you want someone who backs our community first – vote John Tamihere.

I stand for Parliament with a heart full of 'Aroha' a Spirit grounded in tika, and a vision of a better 'Aotearoa' for all. I honour the Whenua, the people and the Whakapapa of this land. I am here not for 'Power' but for 'Purpose' to be a 'Voice for the Voiceless' and a protector of the Sacred. Our Kuia and Kaumatua should not live in poverty, our babies should not go hungry. No Whanau should be without shelter, safety or hope. I will fight to end homelessness and uplift our most vulnerable - not with charity but with justice. I walk with and for our Rainbow Communities who deserve not just tolerance, but true belonging & celebration. I believe in Building a Nation where Compassion, Dignity, Equanimity, Forgiveness, Gratitude, Humility and Aroha are not just values - they are policies in action. I will honour the Treaty of Waitangi.
