Your vote is your ticket to help shape the future of Tāmaki Makaurau. This is your chance to choose Auckland's representatives who will make important decisions on behalf of you and your community.
Positions you can vote for
There are three types of elected members to vote for.
The mayor of Auckland leads Auckland Council's Governing Body and is elected by all voters.
Ward councillors are elected from 13 wards that make up the Auckland region. Depending on the ward you live in, you can vote for up to two councillors. Together, the mayor and ward councillors form the Governing Body and make regionwide decisions on behalf of Aucklanders.
Local boards make decisions on local activities and facilities and provide leadership to build strong communities from 21 local board areas within Auckland's wards. They also contribute local input into regionwide strategies and plans. There are five to 11 members per local board, depending on the size of the area.
Some areas may also require voters to choose members for a licensing trust. These exist to oversee the sale of alcohol at premises in the trust area and decide how surplus profits are returned to the community.
