How to vote in the Papatoetoe Subdivision election

Who can vote 

You can vote in this election only if you were eligible to vote in the Papatoetoe Subdivision at the October 2025 local election.

If you are not sure if you are eligible, contact the Electoral Office at info@electionservices.co.nz or call 0800 922 822.

Key dates 

• Voting opens: Monday 9 March 2026
• Voting closes: 12 noon, Thursday 9 April 2026 
• Preliminary results: from the afternoon of Thursday 9 April 2026
• Final results declared: by Friday 10 April 2026.

How to vote 

Voting is by post only. If you are eligible, we will send a voting pack to your enrolment address from Monday 9 March 2026.

All voting packs should arrive by Thursday 12 March 2026.

How to return your voting papers 

You can return your voting papers by:

• posting them in NZ Post box by Friday 3 April 2026 
• dropping them in one of our vote boxes before 12 noon on Thursday 9 April 2026.

Your voting papers must reach us by 12 noon on Thursday 9 April 2026.

If you do not receive your voting papers 

If you have not received your voting papers by Thursday 12 March 2026, contact the Electoral Office at info@electionservices.co.nz or call 0800 922 822.

The Electoral Office can: 

• confirm your eligibility 
• explain how to cast a special vote.

How to cast a special vote 

If you have not received your voting papers, you may be able to cast a special vote. You can:

• request a special voting pack by post, or
• cast a special vote at Manukau Library or Papatoetoe War Memorial Library.

How the winners are decided 

All local government organisations holding elections within the Auckland area use the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system.

First Past the Post electoral system 

When voting in a First Past the Post election, you tick the name of the candidate(s) you want elected. You get the same number of votes as there are positions available. For example, if there are three positions, you can vote for three candidates.

When the votes are counted, the candidates with the most votes are elected.
