My principal place of residence is in the Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board (Papatoetoe Subdivision) area.
Avinash Kaur Dhaliwal is a proud Papatoetoe local, mother of a teenager, Justice of the Peace, Marriage Celebrant, small business owner, and committed community volunteer. She holds a Commerce qualification and brings experience in administration, customer service, technical support, quality control, and small business management.
Avinash is an active member of the Sikh community, which supported thousands of people during COVID-19, Cyclone Gabrielle, and the Auckland floods through food distribution and community care. Her service is guided by the Sikh value of Seva (selfless service) and has been recognised with a Local Board Community Service Certificate.
In the 2026 by-election, Avinash is proud to stand as the only woman Labour candidate and the first ethnic woman Labour candidate for Papatoetoe. She is committed to integrity, honesty, and respect, with a clear goal of making Papatoetoe cleaner, safer, and more inclusive, while encouraging more women into leadership.
Papatoetoe is not just where I live, it is the community I actively serve and stand beside. I am motivated by real conversations with residents who want safer streets, well-maintained spaces, and practical decisions that respect ratepayers. If elected, I will be a visible, approachable representative who listens, acts responsibly, and works with others to deliver outcomes that genuinely reflect our community’s needs and future.
I bring strong community connection, proven leadership, and a practical, solutions-focused approach. Through my service roles and local involvement, I have developed the ability to listen carefully, communicate clearly, and represent diverse voices with fairness and respect. I am organised, approachable, and committed to making balanced decisions that support community wellbeing while ensuring accountability and responsible use of resources.
Safer neighbourhoods: I want residents to feel secure through better lighting, crime prevention, and community partnerships.
Cleaner public spaces: Well-maintained streets and parks build pride and wellbeing, and I support practical steps to keep Papatoetoe welcoming.
Responsible spending: With many families under pressure, I will advocate for careful budgeting that protects essential services without unnecessary rate increases.
