Transport

My priorities are Safer, well-maintained local roads with reduced congestion and traffic calming near schools. Reliable, frequent, and affordable public transport connecting Ōtara and Papatoetoe to key hubs. Safe cycling lanes and shared paths to encourage active travel. Improved footpaths, lighting, and pedestrian crossings for accessibility. Integrated transport planning that supports families, seniors, students, and local businesses with improved parking facilities.

Water

Auckland’s water must be managed sustainably and transparently. We need secure supply through conservation, reduced leakage, and smart storage. Protect water quality by upgrading ageing pipes and safeguarding waterways. Invest in stormwater systems and green infrastructure to prevent flooding. Modernise wastewater networks to stop overflows and support growing communities like Ōtara and Papatoetoe.

Built environment

Auckland is growing fast, and its urban development shows both ambition and strain. Upzoning under the Unitary Plan has boosted housing supply, but affordability remains tough and infrastructure often lags behind growth. Transport projects like the City Rail Link should improve connectivity. The challenge is balancing density with character—protecting heritage streetscapes while enabling well-designed intensification

Plan Change 120 will see an increased demand on infrastructure. 

Natural environment

Auckland can strengthen climate resilience by restoring wetlands, daylighting streams, and expanding native bush corridors from the Waitākere Ranges to urban parks. Protecting harbours like Waitematā Harbour through stricter runoff controls and living shorelines would boost biodiversity and reduce flood risk. Prioritise mātauranga Māori, urban tree canopy targets, and low-impact design in new developments.

Community

For Otara-Papatoetoe, focus on upgrading community hubs, parks, and libraries to be inclusive and safe. Strengthen local networks through youth, cultural, and sports programs. Improve transport links and walkable streets to connect neighborhoods. Prioritise healthcare, mental wellbeing, and social services, while supporting local businesses and events to foster pride, cohesion, and resilient, vibrant communities.

Economic and cultural development

In Otara-Papatoetoe, I envision vibrant town centres with thriving local businesses, markets, and co-working spaces. Support for Māori and Pasifika enterprises, skills programs, and digital access can drive growth. Celebrate cultural heritage through festivals, arts, and public art, turning cultural pride into economic opportunity while creating jobs, attracting visitors, and strengthening community identity.

Well-managed local government and outcomes for Māori

Deliver Māori outcomes by partnering with iwi in planning, housing, and cultural projects. Manage the Port of Auckland sustainably, balancing trade, jobs, and environmental safeguards. Grow the Auckland Future Fund for climate, infrastructure, and community resilience. Support storm recovery with rapid repairs, flood mitigation, and strengthened emergency services to protect vulnerable communities.
