Why I want to be elected

I am deeply committed to Papatoetoe and the people who call it home. As a lawyer and local business owner employing over 25 staff, I understand the challenges facing families and businesses. Living and working in Papatoetoe, I see both our strengths and the areas needing action. My vision is a safer, vibrant hub where families thrive, businesses grow, and every voice is respected. We will strengthen our economy, protect our democracy & community, and secure a brighter future for generations.

My key skills and qualities

I will bring proven legal expertise, principled leadership and a strong record of community service. I believe in practical problem-solving, effective negotiation and delivering measurable results. For over 25 years, I have helped people navigate complex challenges, built trust across cultures and supported local families and businesses. If elected, I will use my experience to make Papatoetoe safer, more vibrant and full of opportunity, a place where every voice is heard and respected.

My top three issues

1. Work to strengthen the local economy and BIDs - my focus as a lawyer with the heart of a community advocate.

2. Work for a safer, vibrant Papatoetoe where families thrive and community stands strong together.

3. Advocate for more opportunities for young people, supporting learning, jobs and brighter futures.

My position on key topics

Transport

Papatoetoe’s growth means more traffic. I want our community to move safely and easily, whether walking, cycling or using public transport. We need safer pedestrian crossings, better cycle lanes and reliable bus services. Every bus stop should have shelter and seating so families, seniors and workers can wait safely in all weather. By working with Auckland Transport, securing funding and prioritising local needs, we can build a smarter, safer, better-connected Papatoetoe.

Water

I will champion Healthy Waters initiatives, including the Manukau Harbour Forum, Tāmaki Estuary Forum and Ōtara Waterways & Lake Trust, for flood protection, reduce pollution and improve water quality in our streams and harbour. I will advocate for stronger wastewater infrastructure to prevent overflows and contamination. My focus is practical outcomes like cleaner swimming spots, safer waterways and better flood protection—by working with Council and prioritising local environmental needs.

Built environment

I support urban growth that delivers affordable, well-designed housing, modern infrastructure, and vibrant town centres while protecting cultural and built heritage. I will back quality developments, strengthen BIDs, and advocate upgrades like the Papatoetoe Community Hub and smart density near transport hubs so growth does not overwhelm streets, schools, or green spaces. Working with Auckland’s urban development teams, we can enhance connectivity, amenities, and preserve Papatoetoe’s character.

Natural environment

Beyond waterways, I want to see parks and reserves enhanced for families and children to enjoy, with more native planting, safer walking paths, and accessible green spaces. I support programmes like pest control, Eco-Friendly Communities, and Kai Waka that connect people to sustainable living. By partnering with mana whenua, schools, local groups, and securing targeted rate funding, we can increase planting, restore habitats, reduce pollution, and strengthen climate resilience for generations.

Community

I will strengthen community connections through events, arts, and cultural programmes that celebrate our diversity, reflecting our vision of strong, inclusive, and resilient communities. Leveraging my Rotary and Papatoetoe Cricket Club experience, I’ll promote youth development, volunteerism, and active lifestyles. By working with mana whenua, community groups, and securing funding, we can improve facilities, deliver quality services, and enhance wellbeing for the whole Papatoetoe Community.

Economic and cultural development

My vision is for a thriving economy where locals succeed in education, careers, and businesses where thriving town centres and strong BIDs draw people from across Auckland. I’ll back local procurement, business mentoring, and training to grow jobs and skills. Partnering with mana whenua, we’ll weave our rich Pasifika, Māori, and multicultural heritage into events, public spaces, and tourism. We can create a destination that prospers while keeping its unique identity.

Well-managed local government and outcomes for Māori

I’ll work with Māori mana whenua to protect heritage, support cultural projects, and create education and job pathways, including mentoring youth into apprenticeships and skilled careers. The Port must balance growth with environmental care, protecting our waterways while delivering community benefit. I support the Auckland Future Fund to return value to Aucklanders and will advocate for fair storm recovery funding to rebuild stronger, safer, and more equitable communities.
